Popular Vote would ensure that the areas of the country with the most people would basicaly decide who becomes President. That would mean California and NY! I do not want to have a bunch of Yankees and Cal-I-forn-I ayes telling me whats best for me! No thank you!! Not a good idea!! ya know i thought that to but it is that way anyway look at the numbers ma has 11 and calif has how many so not really much differnce |

adj, California gets 54 electoral votes as they have a population of 29 million.

Yes, it is adj. The electorial college is based upon a ratio!
By the time you start adding individuals the odds change drastically! |
Yep NC has 8 million! We have 15 electorial votes...
The current system is fair! ![]() |

No, if it was fair the peoples president would be elected not some of the presidents we've had.
If we had no electoral college I think more people would vote, having more confidence that their vote may actually count. |
People dont vote cause they are complacent! Thats all!!

I believe if more voted and the electoral college worked properly, it would work that way too. If the popular vote could over ride the electoral in circumstances like the 2000 election that would be nice also.
A provision? Hmmm ....
what controls, what limits? Where would we draw the line!! Maybe if the election was as close as 5 electorial votes, go to the popular vote?. That might work! |
to keep the electrol college
it should be broke down into districts no candidate gets every vote in the state and thus leaves the others with out a say |

We tried to get a split vote here in Colorado but we were out voted at the polls. I would really like to see that here as there are alot of dems here but we do not get counted. We are counted as a red state.

We are republican by history, but that could change this year!
If it werent for illegal immigration! I so prayed, preached, and *****ed for that last bill in Congress to pass and get this issue behind us! Instead the issue has grown and the problem here is so great I know its going to dominate peoples votes! |
Well and you already know my position on immigration. But I agree it will be a prominent subject. The hackles are up about it, 30+ years too late. But so is politics, I guess. It will be interesting to see the results.

How Many Votes do States Get?
Each State is allocated a number of electors equal to the number of its U.S. Senators (always 2) plus the number of its U.S. Representatives. The number of electors for a State is based on the number of members in the House of Representatives who represent the State, plus two for the State's Senators. A State's Congressional delegation is determined by the State's population. The number of people in each State is determined by the Federal census, which is taken every ten years and includes a count of every State's population. paste from dragons site page 1 |

Dragonness,
I graduated HS in Alamogordo, NM in the 70's! Apprx. 80 miles from the border! Believe me, I have been to Mexico many times and I know for a fact that Illegal immigration was not the problem then as it is now! No way, No shape, No form!! |
I have many Mexican American friends and when I speak about illegal immigration, I speak with those friendships in mind and with their thoughts as well!

538 el col votes
55 ca == 10.223% for 12.223% of pop. 31 ny === 5.762% for 6.548 of pop. 2004 pop numbers from this site http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0004986.html i don't see that much difference that justifies keeping the college it needs scrapped and majority needed to win > 50% |
