Topic: First cat | |
---|---|
Is anyone wanting to get a cat for the first time? I think a lot of people here can give some advice.

I happen to come from a family that had cats, so that is the best. I have raised kittens and I think it is best to handle them when they are young. Talk to them a lot. Give them independence.

Why cats? Why not snakes, afterall if you bring them up right from thier young age, I am sure they will love u just like cats

I wanted to start a cat topic because I like cats.

May I ask where we stand on cat nip?
They also love Valerian root tea bags, though please remember to tear the bag open for them. We had 1 grab 1 and swallow it whole in a flash We got a bit worried, but he was fine, he retreated to the outside cat house, and had rather a splendid sleep |

I think they are only supposed to smell it. I don't know.

I was given a kitten on my 10th birthday. She was about 8 weeks, so tiny and scared. I loved her so much and we bonded right away.

I am/was a dog person but a litter of 5 kittens were abandoned
in my garage so I took them in on the day they were born. Oh my. Little fur coats with love inside. I had to bottle feed them for weeks, around the clock, talk about bonding! Loves of my life, one left after old age got the others last year, Fred remains at age 16 and ruling the house ;-) I am not sure there is anything I do not know about cats ;-) |

My advice (you cat lovers will hate me after this one) is if you're getting a kitten you should name it stink or stinky because that's the end result of having them inside.

Get pet insurance, my wife who I still talk to, got a kitten within a couple of months it dislocated its knee, so far it has cost £4000.00 for xrays, operation and after care

No doubt, I love cats
I would always get more than one, and always have rescue cats. Vaccination is also essential. |

Only smell it, lol
They love to roll in it and eat it Cats should be allowed the pleasure's of cat nip and Valerian root tea bags if they wish Nobody is forcing them Let's face it, you can't really force a cat to do anything anyway And don't you just love them for that Please get your cat some cat nip and some Valerian root tea bags They deserve it, and will love it |

My kitties have hand made toys, filled with nip and valerian. They go bonkers over them

When we have to leave the house, we put Fred in his
playpen and toss in some of his toys smothered in catnip, he loves it. So far he is not on to us leaving right after.. What is with the valerian teabags? Do they not shred it? |

Whenever you get a pet, you have to be prepared of the possibility of an injury or sickness, and take them to a vet. You can't blame the animal.

I know outdoor cats have to be neutered/spayed. That is a very good idea. Some people only keep them indoors, so they have to have exercise and play. They need good scratching posts.

Some will shred it, to get to the inside, but after the 1 that just swallowed 1 whole, with no shredding in a heartbeat, then pre shredding is advisable.
Yes its good in toys, but only the smart ones can get it out. They want to eat it, it seems a bit unfair not letting them Oh and they will be straight in that cupboard if it's opened, yes I know, they'll go in any cupboard, but that 1 in particular, they will fly straight into |

Cats like to explore. They also need to play and have exercise, especially if they live indoors. You have to have play time with them, just like with a dog.

Mine loves the wee red light on a chain, it keeps him super active.
