my problem living in LA is a lot of them say they are here then when you talk to them they tell you they are doing nursing in Nigeria, or taking care of granny on Idaho then ask for money to come visit me, some put down impossible locations like dockwielder witch is a beach at the end of LAX no living there in less it is on the beach

When I suspect a "woman" isn't honest about her location, I do as TxsGal said. I ask a question involving some local place to test her familiarity with the area. More often than not, she simply doesn't respond or evades the question. Then it's click, block, delete.

As for myself, I no longer list my own town/city. I do it purposely to test people because of something stated in my profile. Now I'm just listed as "Somewhere".

But...how does that help the sincere people who may only want to travel 50-75 miles?
If they don't have a clue whether you are 10 miles from them...or at the other end of the state.....?

Just because someone wants to meet someone 100 miles away or less doesn't make them less sincere..
Of course, some of us are lookjing further afield..

Don't forget, I live in a tiny state.

Plus, it helps me to instantly gauge whether the person contacting me bothered to read my profile.

Also, the zombies have been trying to use different locations to see if I respond, just so they can try to triangulate where exactly I live.

When I run a search, not listing my actual town/city allows me to somewhat limit the number of false profiles that turn up since there will be fewer new ones created near me.

laugh love sad tears frustrated all the emotions i feel because this is like a constant battle and issue. it may seem odd but after one or two messages on here i like to give my number or messenger and take a conversation there. Then if they actually reply thats a first A+ i give them. Then i kind of review their profile and yes i ask where they are from because all to often i have seen scams asking me where i am from then there is a long pause..... i assume it is them looking up somewhere nearby to tell me. thats when they try to ask if i want to meet. which yea sure i do. Meeting in person is the goal. Then they ask oh hey can you do me a favor and pick up a ___ gift card on your way. Its such a trip, at this point i typically like to really start jacking with these people. I start looking at the source ip information and read it back to them from messenger and tell them their actual location... which can range anywhere from ghana to russia to china and to cali... the ones from cali sometimes get freaked out as i start telling them the cops now have their info and this was a sting. I had 3 people beg me not to turn them in. I didnt but then maybe i should have. I think hacking an ip address is wrong on my part but they started it by trying to scam me

The longer you experience this the easier it is to tell who is scamming and who is real.
When I met the woman I am currently with she was one of three possible real profiles.
It was her messages that led me to realize she was real.
There are 5 pages of local matches for me. Of those 5 pages only three are potential.
There are 'tells' that you learn to look for the longer you are searching.
The biggest 'tell' for a non-potential in my area is the "last seen" information at the top of the profile.
You can eliminate a bunch by just looking at the top of their profile.

Why is it that many people tend to think they need a hundred potential matches when all they are seeking is one?
Choose Wisely....

I always ask because I have found the site to be predominantly populated by frauds, unfortunately, but there have to be some of us actually sincere in our quest to find a relationship. Maybe I am in the minority, but I find very few ladies actually live where they state in their profile or are the age they list as well. I have also found dozens of profiles with members (and you can’t be sure if they are women or men can you?), using the photos of the same lady? Different shots, even of the girl at different weights and thus ages, but clearly the same woman. This is likely identity theft! I don’t mean to be rude or to embarrass but simply am trying to weed out potential scammers early on so that we both aren’t wasting our time, or to determine if the distance is going to be an insurmountable issue for either one of us. I’m curious if anyone else has had a similar experience? It can’t just be me??? Thanks everyone!

I save all the numbers they give me..(because they *all* want to go to text right away...)
Next time a scammer wants *my* number...I give him one of his fellow scammer's number...let them talk to each other, I figure..
Love to be a fly on the wall for *that* conversation....laugh

Thanks for that great idea, turning them on themselves. Esp. since more & more seem to be bots. My best outing so far was working two scammers, one in Western Africa & one in Florida...kept both on line for about 12 days waiting for money for plane tickets. Rotflmao. Gosh, the effect this old man has on these poor 20 somethings, 2000miles away...why wasn't I this amazing in my 30's???

Also laugh at those that go by my IP address. I get all these requests for "hookups" that night from Florida gals. They don't read I'm 5 hours away in Costa Rica! lol. And thank you VPN.

Most of the Scammers here cannot message because of my Filter.
So they Friend request daily and I DELETE.

he location listed on my profile is in close proximity to where I live.. but not exactly.

When I am talking to someone and comfortable with them, I will then tell them

Lot of nuts out there

Location,location,location...I have several ladies state they are from xyz only to admit a few messages later that they are not actually there,I have ladies nudge me who obviously have no idea were thier stated location is,for example,Glasgow ,England,eh that would be a big no,I have had several ladies tell me they are working away in guess where? Nigeria, thats because thats what thier numbers show if you whats app,got to the point that I am convinced this site is just choked with scammers and admin does not seem to care, how can they be taking it seriously when the site is littered with fake pictures of semi/sometimes fully naked women.

I wasdn't talking about scammers..
I was talking about dudes (because I am chatting with guys) who CLEARLY aren't scammers questioning where I live, and asking me am I sure I am not in Kentucky? noway
No, scooter..not last time I checked.

Or, they live the next large city over..and want to know how far I am from them..
Hoeny, there's this thing called Google..if you aren't familiar with someplace you can use it (I use Mapquest) to look up how far away someone is..whoa
Guess i just have more common sense that most of them..

Daisy, 99.9% o the time someone who claims they are in Dubai, or any other Middle eastern place is a scammer...

Thank you for all the tips everyone.........I am new to this in general as well as to this site........I was wondering why no one seemed to actually read the profile or wanted to start conversations from hundreds of miles away. And the bad english....yeah. Again, thank you for all the tips. I appreciate it.

Last summer a man in my state wrote, claimed to live in a small town i am familiar with...but there can be a hundred miles of rural mail routes. doesn't mean he LIVES in that town. He said he was wealthy, owned his home and was leaving for England to sell oil to the Russians. hhhhh what fun. I called his post office and they never heard of him. OH he owns his house ! So I did a property search for his county.
Nothing. I went ahead and told him I searched for him and nothing, so don't write again. Boy, was he mad. I should have just blocked him immediately, but I was in an irritated mood and wanted him to know I was not stupid. Anyway, he's gone. If they say they rent, that eliminates one way to check. But if they OWN, talk enough to get his full name, then do a property search.

Due to I keep to only those that are local..Ya can bet your bottom dollar I still ask their location..

I do not ask where they live I actually ask them if they live where they have stated they do and name the town. If they say yes then I ask if they know a certain place or area in that town...

Just cause someone has stated one thing on a profile does not mean that is where they are from..

And even at times we think someone is not scamming us they could be ghosting you as some put it or they are really married and just want to play games. Have had both happen and busted the guy that was married on the forums on the site I was on several years ago due to he was posting in the forums they had...

I'm no where near naive believe me, some are pretty damn good at what they do this includes both women/men... Have seen it first hand~~

Dating Online is a Skill anymore for too many want to play games~~whoa
