You've seen Dr Strange love right?
The doomsday device will keep us all safe, because no 1 will want to nuke us, or we'll use it and nuke every1. It is a deterrent thats existence keeps the peace. Or is it? Discuss |

We survived with a lot less for thousands of years without a doomsday device, not sure we'd need one now....

If someone hits the button, someone else will do the same. Like a chain reaction. I guess, every country in the world needs one of them yokes.

You can't force people to be peaceful or to get along. While it might work for some to have that threat hanging over their head, it won't work for others. Maybe for a short time, but not long term. Those kind of tactics have been used for eons... maybe not as drastic, but the other tactics haven't worked thus far, this won't either.
Also with some people being trigger happy, they're likely to push the darn thing when having a temper tantrum. Peace will come when all humanity truly desires it... it will come from the desire we have in our hearts, not a threat hanging over our heads. |

They are driven by greed, want more power, have a feeling of being superior to others. John Lennon's 'Imagine' is only a pink cloud atm |

I would love to have a mini one to flip over into my neighbors back yard. He cuts his grass at 7am on the weekends........

My opinion is having a doomsday device is not a good idea.
So much power in the hands of a few humans. Humans make mistakes. A few are power hungry. I don't want these few to decide if the world should be blown up or not, or if I and my love ones should live or die. Nobody should have that much power. |

I think thats why we keep our defense strong, but the whole 'doomsday' idear...naw. I love this, thanks for posting it. |

No it's not a good idea! Too many people are emotionally insecure, and would push that button.

There would be no way to totally control who could make it or buy it in todays world. It would get into the wrong hands and that it... Lights out..
There are enough nukes on this planet to annihilate all of civilization.. do we need anything stronger then that.... why? |

Its not the device that dooms our species, its the minds that think that way in the first place.

We have a lot more to worry about than a dooms day device so put on your tin foil hats people because coming straight to you from the rubber room that most people believe I reside in is a YOUTUBE video you all need to check out..SERIOUSLY..."BREAKING PLANET X PLAZMA NIBIRU INCOMING"..yea I know plasma is misspelled but I didn't write it I just copied it..WAKE UP..because the SHYT is about to hit the fan..tc ev1.. While they are filling our heads with politics and the GSM..it's mainly just a distraction from what you all really need to be checking out..there are many more videos on the subject..there is another planetary system within our own ..DO THE RESEARCH.. Notice all the volcanoes erupting and the comets and the sink holes not to mention all the flooding..it's because of all the effects these other planets are having on our own..Back to my rubber room..tin foil hat on tightly..extra heavy duty..seems to be helping some what.. |

Don't we already have them? Nukes all around the globe.

Don't we already have them? Nukes all around the globe. Yup and Nukes are not the only doomsday device. Think weaponized viruses. |

Or is it? Discuss great idea , they can defeat you with just one person send them in ya blow up yourself and no more problems there are way to many people out there with the attitude of if i cant have it no one else can i often laugh when people talk about how far we have come as a race, its really funny, if it wasn't so sad haven't even gotten past the killing stage : ( |

I think the next" doomsday device " will not be man made at all, but a virus. Like the Black Plague with resulted in a estimated 200 million deaths.
We are having a on going full blast war with viruses. Antibiotics vs virus And the viruses are winning. Viruses adapt very quickly. I think it just a matter of time before one comes that antibiotics can not fight and with the mobile population that we have it will not be stopped. |

Is a doomsday device a good idea/thing?
Doesn't really matter. It's like saying "are human beings on the planet a 'good' thing?" They exist. They're there. And they aren't all going to choose to extricate themselves from the equation. The doomsday device will keep us all safe, because no 1 will want to nuke us, or we'll use it and nuke every1. It is a deterrent thats existence keeps the peace. Or is it?
Mutually assured destruction has allowed civilization to thrive, gave it purpose and value. What's to stop one person from strangling another person to steal their food, stuff, mate? Why don't I just take a trip to Italy, pick out a random stranger, kill them and steal their money, house, whatever? The threat of their group. The threat they may struggle and win. The potential that I will lose. The potential that it will become the way things "are" and I can't trust anyone, making my life far more stressful, and I alone will never survive against groups. We've been living under mutually assured destruction detente since we climbed out of the ooze or were shaped by prometheus or shaped by whatever god of your choice. Doesn't matter if it's nukes or each other. It's not good or bad, it's just reality. If you think we're any safer with/without a doomsday device, you've simply decided to develop a false sense of security. |
