After 2.5 yrs you can't do it by text. Meet with her personally and tell her the differences you have which won't let it work, in a kind way, not an accusatory manner. Share how YOU now feel about her. No blaming, or "if only" scenarios,
As neutral as possible, dealing with what the relationship is at this moment. It will also enable whatever healing you both need from the breakup. To leave on a less sad note, you can recall good things and traits you admire about her. |

It's taken 2.5 years to discover you want to break up with her, have you thought about counselling, seems strange to me after all that time unless you have found someone new, if so, be honest and tell her that. |

Dude. No matter how you do it, breaking up (as the old classic song states) is hard to do. You will feel like crap because she is going to cry and be hurt. You'll cry. Then, a few days will pass and you will be okay. She will be fine and the both of you will move on.
Here is the thing. If you believe it is over, then you need to end it. No matter how bad you don't want to upset her, you have to realize that you cannot prevent it. |

it can't be done without hurting her feelings. the best you can do is not be overly rude and make it more hurtful

Sounds like you are in that "pretend mode now"...Best to bring it out in the open before the mask slips off and she begins to question "what the heck is going on?" |

[/quote I suggest that you reach out to a total bunch of strangers as opposed to friends or family and get their opinions. Oh, you already did that. |

Just talk to her about it! She may not want to be with a man who finds their relationship exhausting.
