The Trump presidency has once again shocked the Nation of Trump haters by announcing his willingness to sit down and meet w/the North Korean leader about denuclearization . If Trump can get Noko to abandon their nuclear ambitions then he should be awarded the Nobel peace prize. That, along w/ his announcement of putting tariffs on steel products entering the U.S. are important steps that have needed to be done for years, but not popular ideas among the political elites . So now we have a president that is unafraid to tackle the tough problems we have that takes advantage of our good will. I wish the democrats would acknowledge the positive things going on in this country and quit the constantTrump bashing. We should build up our steel manufacturing plants and return to the days when we were at the top of that industry. We are charged any where from 25% to 100% for exporting our steel while we charge around 2% to 5% for imports into our country. Not fair.... IMO , come November that " blue wave" that folks think will sweep across the nation will slow to a trickle because if you keep resisting positive accomplishments than your just viewed as a stumbling block and soon are removed from the playing field .

A long as China is backing lil Kim, nothing will happen... If China gets in on that meeting, the chances seem a lot better... But until it happens, it's just a fluff story, Trump postering to make it look like he tried... Good idea, but I don't see lil Kim backing down, unless NK is hurting from all the embargos, which is what Trump might be thinking... Either way, good job Trump...

Umm, World Peace is not something that can be accomplished by one man or one nation. It something that has to be done at the same time by all mankind.
The likelihood of that happening is slim to none.

World peace isn't realistic. We have people like lil Kim. We also have others telling other countries what they should do when their hands aren't clean either

On topic, I hope he can settle that little man down

The way it’s being reported here is that Trump and NK will meet, just a matter of naming the time and place?

A word of caution, apparently Kim’s Grandfather and Father did the same though, then carried on with their nuclear programme.

Do I think that this meeting with kim will go anywhere..NO..He wants the military to go away and he wants the sanctions lifted and he will continue on the same course ..like he has been for decades..I think once this investigation has been rendered useless there will be other attempts to get him out..Eventually it will be by any means necessary...spock .. ..with all this nerve agent stuff going on and still unable to find out exactly whose behind it..This may be a way of drawing him out..not to mention before I wouldn't eat anything especially after what happened to Letvinenko....spock

I agree with all the above comments but there is one thing that is differant from past presidents, it's Donald Trump and he doesn't follow the normal " presidents play book on foreign affairs" . How many times have you heard he can't win or he won't grow the economy , well he's proved people wrong time and time again. I'm not betting against him ever. One man can't bring world peace, but one man can start the process.

Trump cannot make world peace, at least he is trying. As long as China support s NK, they are against US too. Trump makes an effort though.

I'll take success any way it comes, but I too remember clearly that this isn't the first President who had talks with NK.

In fact, the Republican Party in particular, and Trump and many other GOP candidates, attacked Obama and other Democrats for having "talks" with N.K. in exactly this way in the past.

We'll see, but I've seen nothing to suggest that anything as changed, other than that it's right about the time in the blather cycle for the head of NK to pretend to be willing to talk again.

China has issues with NK as well, they will probably be there as well

They both have the same bosses / owners, it is organised and staged. It's probably to do with trade, and someone isn't getting enough profit, or can see a market or takeover possible somewhere if they kiss and make up.
Keep an eye out for who the next pariah country is - Russia and china are both getting a bit pokey, Iran too. But again, they all have the same bosses / owners.
Strike a light.

Trump has too much stake in Russia to make them a pariah. AS far as china, he may have too much financial skin in that game too. Maybe the 'ish hole' countries of Africa though?

We will see what comes of it as for now, its just talk, and there is alot of that which never comes to much.

for now, i will give credit when it comes due, but it sounds like one bully said, "Oh, id love to meet that guy in person" and the other bully said, "Okay." With Trump being the second bully and not the first. Not a HUGE accomplishment, but again, time will tell.

The biggest problem I can see with any negotiations or talks, is that NK's leadership has absolutely nothing to give that they can stand to give up, and nothing to gain by giving in to anything the US has always wanted from them.

Specifically, they have EVERYTHING to gain by continuing to develop and maintain a nuclear threat capability, and nothing to gain by giving it up. The more internationally isolated they are, the LESS reason they have to stop, and in fact, the greater reason they have to continue. They have good reason to fear that if they have no nukes, AND no allies, the US will have no reason to allow them to continue to exist at all.

If the US succeeds in enlisting China AND Russia against the NK, they can ONLY continue to threaten nuclear holocaust, in order to stay in power.

In the mean time, periodically pretending to be willing to talk, offers them the ability to sneak a lowering of restrictions every now and again.
