Topic: Food allergies... | |

Evening all! Probably should post this is Parenting, but not all of us are parents.
I emailed my son's teacher about bringing in doughnuts for Chanukah and cupcakes for his birthday. She replied that there are children with food allergies in the room. This is new since there were not at the beginning of the year. So, I need to find a treat for the kids that does not include the following: Eggs Peanuts Wheat Dairy Looks like all cakes are out. Help me out here! Please! Parents, medical professionals, anyone! Hugs, M |

Candy bags with chewy candy (skittles, etc)? Rice Krispy treats? I just checked the labels and the ones I have don't have those ingredients listed. the only thing would be the margarine but there's soy stuff on the market (yuck).

I'd either ask the teacher or go with organic snacks. Organic snacks, many times, don't contain the allergens that foods seem to. My son and daughter both have allergies, not to foods...like I do, but to different things.

Banging head against the wall.
Going to go to with small toys, etc. All I need is to send in something that has touched something else and send a kid to the hospital. Now watch me try to explain this to a 7 year old to be. Uh-oh. |

try apples with razor blades in them.

I have no idea what foods I can and cannot have.
I should figure it out before I die too young. |

Watch out that the small toys don't contain lead. What a world!! I would send donuts and cupcakes. The kids who are allergic know what they are allergic to and what not to eat. Why should the whole class suffer?

There are children with peanut allergies in my child's class.
I was told that if my child ate something with peanuts and puts hands on desk and the child with the allergies puts their hands on the same desk; that child could die. So, the school sent home a list of recommended snacks. |

What about fruit roll ups

I had the same problem in my son's class one year, no peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, for 2nd graders

I screwed up and had peanut butter crackers on a field trip.
We ate outside. The mom came over with hand wipes. |

Rice based crackers, and a dip..kids love it.. Dried fruits, an array of sliced vegetables, raw, for dipping as well..
You can use almond meal for a biscuit base, with olive oil margarine, or soy butter.. Make a caramel with brown sugar and olive oil margarine, and coconut cream, boiled on the stove, then covered with a chocolate top, voila!! Caramel slice!! Baklava, is almond and pistachio, and honey between fine layers of flaky pastry, which can be made with rice meal instead.. |

MMMM, baklava! Great, now I'm getting hungry!

just to say, im severly allergic to nuts,i go into anaphaltic shock, i carry my own adrenline injections
but the hard part is, most foods say may contain traces of nuts, so i have to risk it, else i could eat virtually nothing. |

Thanks for all the input.
Lee, please email me some recipes if you would be so kind, Dear Lady. Donnar, I know all about the lead paint. There were literally hundreds of cars and trains I have had to go through. Had the boy tested for lead in his bloodstream just in case. I hate it when kids feel left out. Not going to bring anything that everyone can't have. Really heading out now. Had to get the battery boosted. Left the lights on earlier. I'm a dork! Hugs, M |
