I am frugal when I shop.
I look for the best quality at the lowest cost. There are times when Quality is more important than quantity. Supporting a family of 6 on one income was sometimes very difficult to make ends meet. We chose many generic (black & white) labels to supply our needs. At that time, quantity was more important than quality. Now that I am alone, I have plenty of money to buy quality. There are however, times and products that I buy because quality is not important. Here is a small list of some examples: Computer equipment - Quality is important for durability and dependability Gasoline - Quantity is more important Canned Vegetables - A mix, some off-brands have stems and defects that are unappealing. Others are completely acceptable. Condiments and Spices - Quality is important because they can be used to increase the quality of less desirable brand foods. Toothpaste and Mouthwash - quality only. Clothing - highest quality within my budget range for intended use. Paper products and Disposable Items - Quantity over quality everytime When shopping I usually don't look at prices anymore. I buy what I want. If I am buying quantity I do choose off-brand a lot. When buying items that are not important or expected to last I buy off-brand. Most of the foods I buy are brand name. I use shopping lists and include brand names when I feel it is important for quality. Sometimes I never even consider buying off-brand. Like Campbell's Soups. I classify stores like cars. There are: Bentley Stores - High quality - High cost - Luxurious (salad/lunch bars, mini restaurants, cheese counters and taste tester kiosks) Chevy Cavalier Stores - Mostly good quality - Fair cost - Practical Yugo Stores - Low quality - Low Cost - Frugal To each their own |

The only thing i look at brands is usually when it comes to cooking or baking.
Potato salad doesn't taste the same if i use any mayo besides best foods. If i deviate from certain baking ingredients it might leave a funny aftertaste. |

I'm reminded of MTV Cribs. (showing my age)
"Nelly" during a house tour says, "That's my bathroom. No one needs to see that. *I use Charmin*." |
