I have to miss him for weeks on end every time. But I prefer to call it 'longing for', which is not the same. It can ache just the same, but it's a sweet kind of pain. Based on desire, not on lack. I can even enjoy the feeling at times, even though I much rather be with him.

I'm assuming most are talking about missing someone they've lost, I'm not. But in the past I also could miss someone when we were not together. The fact that I now don't feel that way but feel longing instead tells me I have grown. And I'm happy about that!

If you think you miss someone who you don't think that you really SHOULD miss, sometimes it helps to focus more closely, and figure out exactly WHAT you miss.

Often, when someone was once a dear love or friend, but they went a wrong way in your life, what you miss isn't THEM, really. What you miss is the feeling you had before they turned out to be who they actually were. You miss the idea that someone cares about you, which they used to represent to you.

This is why lots of people who really should move on from someone who wasn't a good match, keep going back to them again. Only to learn yet again, why they left them.

If you do find that what you miss, is just what they represented, and not them, then that can be enough to move those strong emotions from the past, and turn them into a yearning for your future instead. Sounds hokey, but it's often true.

Yes..^^ it took me awhile to realize I did not miss the whole person..
I only really missed part of them the way she would hold me when we were together.. even if we're just in the lineup to buy groceries.. or get a coffee.. she had this way of wrapping herself around me..mmmmmm... I realized that's what I missed.
