chances are...?

now I am not saying long distance romance never works out

I happen to have known a couple in which he was fifteen years older than his young wife.

He was half German and half American

met her while stationed in the military

she was from the Philippines

he married her and brought her here

they have a couple kids together

there are whole sites devoted to finding you a foreign bride
if that is what you are shopping for...

Not sure if you're saying that people living in other countries are too good to be true or just people in general?

Being too good to be true..
It's like hot dogs..
You know they're full of all kinds of crap.. probably not very good for you..
But put them on a stick.. slow-roast until there golden brown.

And..mmmmm..mmmmm..yuuum..
At that point they look real good ..but they're still full of bad crap..lol

If someone sounds too good to be true

"Too good to be true"
That is a saying that destroys potential.

It implies that something is false because it is good.

When used in assessing people it implies that you think they are liars based on your impression of their qualities you like.

Not only is it an injustice to yourself it is an injustice to them.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of liars out there. The thing about liars is they always...always mess up. Its much more natural to be truthful than to try to perpetuate a lie. Lies are demanding but truth is easy.

I must admit, your related OP about the military couple and long distance romance throws me. Perhaps I am not seeing a picture that you posted? I have noticed that not all images are showing up for me?
This is what I see:

it destroys hope...interesting persective

by all means full steam ahead

just do so with eyes wide open

lemme spell it out for ya

how many threads you see pop up in this place a week

b*tchin about scammers on this site

now of course, they are not specific to this site

I happen to be on a few

they run rampant all over free sites

just amazes me how people fool themselves into believing the fairy tale

being spun to them in the first place..

here's the thing

look in the mirror

if you ain't attracting sweet young things

everytime you gas up the car

or go get groceries?

hmmmm...now why would you believe you are suddenly

Joe Studdly online?

I agree, TMommy. We see so many 20-some-year-old guys here who do think they're Joe Studdly. Which begs the question--WHY then are they here? Not getting enough action in the real world?

ahhh I would say the same thing for all the young bucks

shopping for an " Aunty" online

One thing is certain about online dating sites - There are many scammers.

I've noticed a few things about the forum posts on most dating sites.

Complaints about scammers
Meaningless, unrelated replies that say hi or hello.

I still don't see what the OP has to do with scammers or people believing scammers.

Being from a military life I know many couples that have been together for a long time that met overseas. Yes, they even have children.

Had there been some reference to scammers or believing the scams I would have got it but as it is worded it threw me.

'Familiarity breeds contempt.'

The longer you know someone the more you are likely
to be aware of their flaws/faults.

Anyone can appear wonderful at first.

People shed their mates as they
actually get to know them.

I understood what you are saying and agree with you 100%. Lots of scammers come on here telling you what they think you want to hear. I will also add that when dating; that a man that uses women for sex will tell you what you want to hear. I think you should always be cautious about believing what the other person has to say. We live in a nasty world and I say always go by your instincts.

If someone sounds too good to be true...

Don't see what that has to do with long distance relationships, but alas..

If someone sounds too good to be true, they usually are... Usually, not always.
It can also feel that way when you finally find the right one for you.
