Hi,
I'm 44 and really hate introducing someone I'm dating steadily as my "boyfriend". (no steadies now but just asking) Is there a better term Adults are using for the person they are dating. I don't really mind being called a Girlfriend but Men I date, are far from Boys. |

I say man friend or this is my sweetie, sweetheart, I too do not like to refer to a grown man as my boyfriend

hmm i'm only 23, so i never considered this problem... maybe gentleman caller? depending who your talking to, you can be funny use phrases like sugar daddy, or man-sicle... ok i'm getting bored at this point, i need to go find another forum before i say something i later regret haha!

Not bad, I said "this is my little honey' once to try it out and it didn't go over very well. LOL

How about just "this is my friend...
|

I've said that too and the guy got offended. "Oh, so I'm just your friend huh?"

lol just try saying it about a girl and watch what she does. yeah just use a term of endearment. it let's them know there is something more than friendship there and that the two of you have feelings for each other, that should really be enough to convey the type of relationship you have.

i perfer to introduce them as my partner..has worked for me so far
|
|
|

Have you tried, "this is my partner"?
|

How about this is my studmuffin or puppy (if he was younger).

Why can't u just say, this is........no relations needed ...let them keep guessing what he is to u!!

Would "my man" be out of the question. Men refer to their woman as "my girl" now. As least that's been my experience.

ok, seriously, what is wrong with just saying, "This is Duane" or whatever their name is, why must they be labeled? I just introduce them as their name and then later when I run into them let them drill me on the details.

i think curious has it right..a genuine term of endearment, letting them know they're valued by you

I've done that too. No 'title'.
Now that I have some 40+ here looking, what is it you like or hate about being single and dating over 40? One thing for me, it is dealing with being on a date and the man looking everywhere besides at me when I talk to him or he talks to me. Then, at the end of the date, he acts like he's all into me and wants to take things "further". I can't help but (almost) laugh and say, "where were you thru our date then?!" lol |

Ohhhh, good topic.
have to consider that with upcoming holiday parties that I am going to with my beau (how I refer to him here). I'm 39 and he is 44. Maybe I'll introduce him as my 'squeeze'? Since my pet name for is 'Dorkface,' I doubt that will go over well. His work party is first so I will get to see how he introduces me. M |

Good 4 u.no one likes to feel there second place.at least on a date u would think u would be first place.

Sounds like you were with a guy who wasn't showing you respect. I've always referred to my lady friends as my girl if there was something to our relationship. Never got any complaints. I'd have no problem with being called "my man", but to each their own. The title is not really necessary but some do like it, some don't I guess. Happy hunting! G

So, you won't talk to him first and ask him how he will introduce you at his work party? I mean, if he says, "this is my friend Michelle" or, this is my Sugarlips, will you get mad and possibly wreck the evening? I might bring it up so to make sure there is no awkwardness during a festive occassion.

That is funny, I have had a few dates like that too. They were pleasant and friendly through the date, but not touchy feely, showing affection at all by touching your back as you enter the door or touching during conversation or sitting next to each other, then you get home and they try and invite themselves in and all of the sudden can't keep their hands off of you. Yes, they act shocked when they are told I am going in alone and they are going home!!
