I have been spending time looking for a chimney sweep where I live. It should not be such a big problem.

You're probably right. But people do it as a side job. It's really important to clean a chimney every year.

Where I live, many people use a fireplace all winter for heat. Many people start a fire in their chimney and burn their house down because they don't have a chimney sweep.

We have em here in The Pass. El Paso, that is. Creosote buildup is extreamly flamable.

Be careful...some chimney services don't just clean, they try to sell you chimney repairs you may not need.

I know back home in Jersey there are licensed chimney sweeps. I have a chimney but never used it.
Anyway, its a important thing for people who do use their chimney. Many house fires have started because of dirty chimneys and on a rare occasion, death due to backed up fumes. Check with your local fire dept., they would know where to direct you to. |
