For me the weekends are hard for eating right, and all the kids want is pizza or burgers and who wants to cook on the weekend after cooking all week.
Anybody got any ideas for weekend temptations??? |

My son loves to eat junk food on thee week-ends...
i just bang it up..a healthier way.. for instance..he loves pigs in a blanket..so instead of reg chesse..we use 2%. we eat lotsa fruits on movie night ( fri-sat)..instead of popcorn..and we make our own pizza instead of ordering out so we can control what we put on it..its helped...im on my way to a healthier lifestyle! Temptation is so easy though...when you are tired..worked all day..dont wanna cook,...and some fast food place is offering a special....but is full of fat,grease and calories...you just gotta PUSH THAT GAS petal....and get home....lol..and make something healthy and YUUMY! |

Hydroxycut really works...
...but it also comes along with all of the side-effects you can read up on, on google: headache, jitteriness, erratic heart rate... On the plus side it really works. You never feel hungry, and are just fine eating like a small thing once per day. Drink lots of water like it says. If you're not overweight and work out, and your goal is to get cut, this stuff also works, but monitor your heart rate carefully, and if you feel light headed, STOP. But, Hydroxycut really does work (works better if you exercise too). The hard part would be after you're down to a weight and size you're happy with, how do you keep it off without the appetite suppressor? |

On a personal note, I have my own routine:
M-W-F is work out days because I don't have to be at work until 11am. So, I get up at 7am with and go to the gym. 30 minutes on the stairmaster, bike, or treadmill (never the same thing) with a difficulty that gets me sweatin' and breathin hard. If I'm not sweating or breathing hard, the difficulty is too low, and I might as well not have come to the gym. Then I hit the weights for about 30 min, targeting different things each time, but working abs every time because they are a large muscle group that can recuperate quickly. My biggest problem isn't weight loss, but weight gain. I'm trying to gain it (have been for a year) but to no avail. But then I digress. <b>As for meals, eat pretty much what you want all day, but not to the point of feeling full, just to the point of not feeling hungry. This includes pizza, fast food, whatever you want. No snacking. Once you get to dinner, it should be something small and as carb free as possible; that means no potatoes, rice, bread, etc. as possible (sandwich of course has bread, etc.). Reason for this is after dinner, you're pretty much inactive so won't burn anything off. Still need nutrients though, so vegetables and fruits are great, as well as protein!</b> |

Oh, one more thing I left out.
You get one cheater day a week. This day you can eat whatever you want, whenever you want it. The reason for this is so you can still eat things that you want and get the satisfaction of doing it while having moderation the rest of the week. It gives you something to look forward too. It's a way to reward yourself for doing the right thing all week long. If you do this, it might be a way to keep you from succumbing to the pressures of bad food throughout the rest of the week, and only do it on this one day. My cheater day is Saturday, so I can hang out with friends, and maintain the appearance that I'm not watching what I eat. |

I'm so glad you posted this topic. I have been struggling with weight issues my entire life. My top weight was 355lbs. Dropped all the way down to 190 at one point. Then, as the years passed, I started putting on the lbs again. About a month ago, I started seriously dieting, once again. I just tell everybody, I'm on "The Barb Diet". This works for me. I'm not into taking pills, so, that wasn't an option. I totally cut out sugar and white bread. Eat more fruits and veggies. Here is a typical day of eating for me:
Breakfast granola bar (or similar) black coffee Lunch Lofat yogurt with cerea mixed in(special k) or similar. some fruit)lite or no sugar added,peaches, pears, etc. Dinner Lean Cuisine meal or Healthy choice most nights, If I do cook, I eat only a little. Maybe grilled chicken breast, sm. salad, lo fat dressing. Snacks sugar free jello, sugar freee pudding, rice cakes, breyers low carb ice cream. Just find what suits your needs. Drink lots and lots of water all day. This is what has been working for me. And I almost forgot. Excersice::: Every night I do about 25 situps. Need to excerise more, but, I have a bad back so have to be careful. So far, I have dropped 14lbs this month. Just stay focused on what you want. Also, someone else posted this: Have one day to eat what you want. I usually pick saturdays. Hope this may help some of you. Thanks again for this topic. well I have been in a melting process for months now it all started with some woman type surgery I began to feel healthy again alive strength back and my taste buds and whole appetite changed.
and then when My marriage blew up well that even sped up the process even more so some good things do Come out of the bad. but I am down quite alot 60+ and still melting. daily |

We can all appreciate and even gain from each others ideas, trials and tribulations. Point is to keep pushing to get to your goal weight. And yes yes yes, it's a great idea to treat yourself one or two days a week and eat what you want (in moderation of course).
My goal weight is 135. What's yours????? |

The hardest thing is the commitment.
Once you commit yourself to a diet, program, exercise, whatever, it takes intense will power to do it. And of course before you do commit, make sure that it is SAFE to your health and well being. No reason to go into bulemia or some crap like that. I think that losing weight could be as hard as quitting smoking - not impossible, but hard. Of course this is my personal, non professional opinion here, so take it with a grain of salt. |

I've heard about some rough side-effect from the Alli weight loss pills... go look it up if you've got no clue what i'm talking about. |

This is a good topic, everyone is so encouraging. Since I am diabetic, the low carb diet works best for me. The only problem is my son lives with me, and he doesn't like the food I eat, so he has plenty of junk food around. I also realize that I eat more when I'm depressed. I love sweets, but most of them are just carbs. Anyone got any ideas for snacks?

Let your son have the snacks but do like I do..have your son keep them hid in his room. Out of sight out of mind!! I usually do not bring snacks in my house...but if my son asks for them, then I will buy him a FEW snacks.
I will tell you this, you need to teach him how to eat healthy or he will be looking at a weight problem also. Bring in fruit or low fat things. Even if he is thin..you don't want to let him get even a little bit over-weight. |

You know I started to hate all the Snickers, Mars Bars etc etc once I saw how much fat and how many calories they contain. I never touch that sh*t again, and I would never buy one for my children.... heck, I wouldn't give them to a stranger; I believe they are that bad.
I substituted different kinds of cereal flakes in their place. I really enjoy them "dry", without milk. Especially the ones with nuts and different berries mixed in... There you go healthy snacks. |

I need support when it comes to losing weight. I have tried countless diets and it seems that none of them work. Not to mention trying the exercise half of it and give up after 2 weeks of trying. I need some great motivational tips and some diets that actually work....any tips?

Yes. Go exercise 3-4 days per week, not every day.
Most gyms are now not that expensive, and their classes are free of very cheap. Join a class - it is more fun that way. Stepping is a good cardio workout that is just perfect for beginners. Gets your heart rate pumping, your body moving and your weight dropping. At Bally's right now the classes like that are free of charge, open to everybody. Diets do not really work. Whatever you lose will come back - the day after you quit a diet. Baby steps - do not lose 10 pounds in a week - lose a pound a week. You will see that after a month of this (actually very fun activity) you will feel better and have more energy. You will not become a skeletal model (think Victoria Beckam - ughh! shudder!) but you will lose a few pounds and be much more healthy. Baby steps. |

Hey Bearfan and welcome to the site. If you really want to lose weight you have to be committed. Two weeks of exercise and crash diets won't do the trick. Losing weight is a life long commitment and changing your lifestyle has to be first and formost on your mind. These diets out here and pills can really help you to jump start your efforts, but you know there is no magic fix. Maybe you could try to start with the idea that you'll give yourself let's say 6 months to lose about 10 pounds. At least you'll have a goal in mind that I think is very achievable. Every journey begins with just one step. Take that step and create a small goal for yourself. At this point you don't think you can do it, but we all know you can because most of us have. It ain't easy that's for sure, but you can lose weight if you really really work at it. Once you start seeing the weight come off, you'll be so proud of yourself and that will encourage you to keep going.

I live at the gym, but am fighting a belly I know comes from all the fun but wrong foods. Am going to try to S. Somers plan. Has anyone tried that?

Since posting, Ive been walking at least a mile everyday and getting my heartrate up... this may be the motivation I need.
