they cheated uche and doubled my 3.5. im telling ya, they did or they googled it yes, they cheated. honestly. I know what they did. They googled it, so the answer they gave is correct. uche, you must believe me. Well, here's a bit of the math I usually do, so let's see how you do: It's an easy one You need to make 200 ml of a 0.5 M solution that has a molecular weight of 243 g/mol, how many grams do you need? Sorry, I've been on vacation, it was fun to dust outvthe cobwebs, thanks for the thread. |

Could someone show the work on this? 243 g/mol * 0.5 mol/L * 0.2 L = 24.3 g |

Solve this maths and show your working. 6-1*0+2\2=? You treat it as two different expressions. (6-1*0+2)(2) = 4 |

Solve this maths and show your working. 6-1*0+2\2=? Step 1: We identify the 'operators': minus (-) multiplication (*) addition (+) division (/) (not '\' @ Uche) Step 2: We 'focus' upon the 'precedence/priority' of operators: (highest to lowest): / * + - Step 3: Now we proceed as follows: 6-1*0+2/2 = 6 - 1 * 0 + (2/2) = 6 - 1 * 0 + 1 = 6 - (1 * 0) + 1 = 6 - 0 + 1 = 6 - (0 + 1) = 6 - 1 = 5 Therefore, result of above given mathematical expression = 5 |

6-(1*0)+(2/2)
6-0+1 7 |

The important factor is that you understood I meant division, whether "\" or "/" could be typo error. For some reasons like this your own formula now I am delaying posting my own working. Until then, lets have as many contributions as possible. Thanks!!
I 'understand'. And, 'you' are welcome! |

^ Joe, I fixed it for you. Now, your answer is correct. Well that's the way I read it, thanks. Not sure if the actual question was written correctly. I'll have to throw in a spherical trigonometry question sometime. How to get from A to B bearing in mind the earth is egg shaped. |

simple
first in () then exponents then multiplication and division then add and subtract from left to right |

In the mathematical order, the addition happens before the subtraction so you are correct. Attention to detail. |

PEMDAS as interpreted by some where addtion is performed before subtraction: 6-[(1*0)+(2/2)]=5
Actual order of operations performs left subtraction prior to the addition: [6-(1*0)]+(2/2)=7 6-[(1*0)+(2/2)]=5 PEMDAS cannot assume this first case, because there are NO PARENTHESES in the original statement; you cannot arbitrarily add parentheses where none were given. Any such "assumptions" are grossly incorrect. Addition and subtraction are the same level operators, it doesn't matter which order that the sums are done in. 6-0 = 6, 6+1 = 7 -0+1 = 1, 6+1 = 7 PEMDAS is an acronym to help remember a rule. It is not the rule itself, and is indeed an imperfect representation. PEMODAOS (Parens, Exp, Mult Or Div, Add Or Sub) is more correct but not as easy to remember. Above is stuff I found. 7 is correct. |

This is getting annoying. What takes precedence, addition BEFORE subtraction or if they are on the same level, just straight left to right operation? Anyone have a link to a reliable source?
