has the best explanation i found but the rest of the sites i peeked at confirm it |

I am taking your word for it, although I got mixed results when I researched. The correct answer therefore remains 7. Game over.

B Brackets
O Order D Division M Multiplication A Addition S Subtraction I think it's bodmas in India but still same as pedmas. Were all doing the same thing where it matters. |

You just confused everyone again. Make sure to state division OR multiplication and THEN addition OR subtraction, going left to right.

Solve this maths and show your working. 6-1*0+2\2=?
To Uche: I had solved this earlier (in this particular thread) and obtained the result as 5. That answer (and the 'working/explanation') is incorrect. All those who've obtained 7 as the 'answer', are correct. My 'heartfelt' congratulations to them. ![]() ![]() Now, I'll explain my working as follows: Step 1: Identify the operators: Subtraction (-) Multiplication (*) Addition (+) Division (/) Step 2: Precedence Of Operators (according to the BODMAS rule): (Highest To Lowest) / * + - Step 3: Now, we proceed as follows: 6 - 1 * 0 + 2 \ 2 = 6 - 1 * 0 + ( 2 / 2) = 6 - 1 * 0 + 1 = 6 - (1 * 0) + 1 = 6 - 0 + 1 After this step, I went wrong in my earlier attempt. A bad conceptual mistake on my part. = 6 + 1 - 0 = (6 + 1 ) - 0 = 7 - 0 = 7 Therefore, the result of the above given mathematical expression will be 7. Kudos to 'all' who got '7' as their answer. ![]() Note To Self: 6 - 0 + 1 may not be written as: 6 - (0+1) [This was my 'conceptual' error, earlier on.) However, 6 - 0 + 1 may be written as: 6 + ( - 0 + 1) = 6 + ( 1 - 0) = 6 + 1 = 7 (which again yields 7 as the correct answer) Thank You Uche Once Again. Your 'spectacular' thread enabled me to 'learn' & 'rectify' my conceptual lapses. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'll remember this.. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
