Be careful with the catfish/scam

That's exactly why I INSIST on a phone conversation. I emailed with what I thought was a female about seven times, and she kept finding excuses not to call.

When "she" ran out of excuses, "she" stopped writing. I found out about a week later, through the grapevine, that it wasn't a female at all.

They may be able to steal a picture, and claim it's them. But what they can't do, is sound like a woman. That little thing called an Adams Apple prevents that.

No do not give out your phone number. A few days ago I had a girl contact me asking for my number, I thought what the hell here you go, she was cute I believe mid 20s on "her" profile. The next day I'm sent a text hey it's "Amber from okcupid". I text back hey what's up? Next text is an explicit pic waist down. Sarcasticly I said very nice is that your pick up line? No respond for a day. Then I get a text saying did you get my pic? I said yes. She said why didn't you respond? I said I did respond scroll up. Then 2 days later I get a phone call from a "detective Brown" stating that I was sending illicit content and having sex with a minor. I said no sir I did not nor would I have any intentions to do such a thing. He said call the "father Mr. Lucas" he's willing to give you a second chance. I'm freaking out mind you because he sounded very convincing! I ask for the fathers number....same number that texted me. I call it and "Mr. Lucas" is all upset and he's willing to give me a second chance but his paralyzed wife wants to press charges and his "daughter" was in therapy over this and they need help paying for it and they won't press charges. $2500!!!!! Keep in mind both voices sounded African American and they both called me "son" nonstop. I said how am I supposed to send you money "Mr. Lucas"? I only have $200 I can spare. He knew all about going to Walmart and filling this and that out on a rush card, and asked how long it would take me to get to Walmart. My light bulb then went off that this is a potential scam and I also know police phone numbers show up as restricted numbers. To stall I said it would take me 1.5 hours to get to the closest Walmart, knowing I'm 10min from one if need be. I then did my due diligence and found that this is one of the fastest growing dating site scams. I blocked both numbers and deleted my profile from that site. My cell phone is a "burner" phone from Walmart so I wasn't concerned there. Brilliant scam I must say and I almost fell for it. Moral of the story....don't give out your number!!

Stop the bullsh!t texting. I've disabled it on my phone. Texting is for fakes and cheaters.

I just had someone do this and the answer is no, I have no intention of texting him. If I do then he has my cell number and that's not going to happen when I haven't even responded to his email yet. I did respond to his email, but I let him know that I am not comfortable exchanging cell numbers with someone until I have gotten to know them first. If he understands that great, if he doesn't like it too bad and he can move on. There are too many stalkers out there and with online dating sites you can't be too careful.

I agree! It's great for telemarketing calls too! And the blocking feature that Mingle has for unwanted emails is good too. I haven't had to use it yet, but it is nice to know it is there if I do. Just sayin'...

I hate to burst your bubble, but women have Adams Apples too. Just sayin'. However, with that said, their voices are generally in a higher range than a mans which totally gives them away. I'm sorry to hear that someone tried to deceive you like that though. That was not cool at all!

Absolutely the first time I heard anyone besides myself say the same thing. so many people out there that lack the possession of integrity that they are completely scattered upstairs and they don't know the first thing about being grounded. me me me!
