Nancy Pelosi to Appoint Muslim to House Intelligence Committee



Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., became the first Muslim tapped to sit on the House Select Committee on Intelligence Tuesday.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi reportedly announced the appointment during a weekly caucus meeting. He already serves on the House Armed Services Committee and previously worked for the Department of Homeland Security's Fusion Center -- the section dedicated to streamlining information sharing between government agencies and the military after a failure to do so effectively prior to the 9/11 attacks.

The committee will likely focus on the threat of the Islamic State and the ongoing instability in Ukraine during the 114th Congress.

Carson became the second Muslim to serve in Congress after he won a special election in 2008 to replace his grandmother, Rep. Julia Carson.

More an assignment than a job. I's not like Congressmen actually do all that much work.

That said, you're right. Rep. Carson's religion has very little to do with anything in Congress or any committee beyond his personal point of view. I'm not surprised, though, that the Teabaggers cannot understand that Islam is not a uniform, monolithic ideology. Do they feel the same about Christianity? Can we assume that they all side with Westboro Baptist Church? (go picket a funeral)

and his career indicates to me that he is intelligent enough to fill
the position,, since he had the intelligence for THREE terms in politics already
