the Japanese internment... who's to say by not sending them to internment camps that we didn't prevent something like 9-11 back then? we were at war, war is unjust... i'de rather err the side of caution then not...

Ever heard of the Nisei?

President Roosevelt announced the formation of the 442nd Infantry Regimental Combat Team, saying, "Americanism is not, and never was, a matter of race or ancestry."

The 442nd Regimental Combat Team was the most decorated unit for its size and length of service in the history of American warfare.[3] The 4,000 men who initially came in April 1943 had to be replaced nearly 2.5 times. In total, about 14,000 men served, earning 9,486 Purple Hearts. The unit was awarded eight Presidential Unit Citations (5 earned in one month).[28]:201 Twenty-one of its members were awarded Medals of Honor.[2] Members of the 442nd received 18,143 awards, including:

... 21 Medals of Honor (the first awarded posthumously to Private First Class Sadao Munemori, Company A, 100th Battalion, for action near Seravezza, Italy, on 5 April 1945; 19 upgraded from other awards in June 2000)

... 52 Distinguished Service Cross (including 19 Distinguished Service Crosses which were upgraded to Medals of Honor in June 2000

... Distinguished Service Medal

... 560 Silver Stars (plus 28 Oak Leaf Clusters for a second award

... 22 Legion of Merit Medals

... 15 Soldier's Medals

... 4,000 Bronze Stars (plus 1,200 Oak Leaf Clusters for a second award; one Bronze Star was upgraded to a Medal of Honor in June 2000. One Bronze Star was upgraded to a Silver Star in September 2009.)

... 9,486 Purple Hearts

... On 5 October 2010, the Congressional Gold Medal was awarded to the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the 100th Infantry Battalion, and Nisei serving in the Military Intelligence Service.
Americanism is not, and never was, a matter of race or ancestry.

if that was was so true, why were the units segregated to whatever race they were? blacks fought in separate units, Japanese fought in separate units, whites fought in separate units... politicians say whatever people want to hear, like our liar in chief now...

Racial attitudes of the times and fear, the rights movement hadn't occurred as yet. However the segregated regiments usually performed better than their all white counterparts.

... Despite some official resistance and administrative barriers, black airmen were trained and played a part in the air war in Europe, gaining a reputation for skill and bravery (ie: Tuskegee Airmen). In early 1945, after the Battle of the Bulge, American forces in Europe experienced a shortage of combat troops so the embargo on using black soldiers in combat units was relaxed. The American Military History says:

Faced with a shortage of infantry replacements during the enemy's counteroffensive, General Eisenhower offered Negro soldiers in service units an opportunity to volunteer for duty with the infantry. More than 4,500 responded, many taking reductions in grade in order to meet specified requirements. The 6th Army Group formed these men into provisional companies, while the 12th Army Group employed them as an additional platoon in existing rifle companies. The excellent record established by these volunteers, particularly those serving as platoons, presaged major postwar changes in the traditional approach to employing Negro troops.

The last of these segregated units was disbanded in 1951.

Segregated regiments go back to the Indian Wars however where all Black regiments earned a reputation for honor and courage.

Politics has never been about what you know (intelligence). It's always been about WHO you know or who will be the best "yes" man to the real manipulator a behind the scenes! JMHO

More an assignment than a job. I's not like Congressmen actually do all that much work.

That said, you're right. Rep. Carson's religion has very little to do with anything in Congress or any committee beyond his personal point of view. I'm not surprised, though, that the Teabaggers cannot understand that Islam is not a uniform, monolithic ideology. Do they feel the same about Christianity? Can we assume that they all side with Westboro Baptist Church? (go picket a funeral)

Mortimer really has a thing for "Teabaggers".laugh

you seem to know your liberal history... they used them because they didn't want the whites to die... thats why they were used in no win situations and where they knew they weren't coming back... nice book knowledge, tho...they performed "better" because they had to fight harder to survive...

whatever, you libs think whatever makes you happy, as will i... there's nothing either of you can say to prove he's not muslim, and even so, he's still a liberal... he's lied about everything, so no matter what you two can say about how great he is, it just shows me that neither of you care about his lying, cheating ways... just reaffirms my dislike for liberals and about 80% of everything they stand for...

even if he was muslim , I wouldnt care

my proof is that he attended a BAPTIST CHURCH for years,,and he uses a king james bible and celebrates CHRISTIAN holidays,,lol,, to name a few things

but there are as many different types of people in the muslim population as in the christian

christians have had people like in Jonesville, the KKK, the West Baptist Kooks,, who use scripture to justify their behavior,, and I wouldnt want any of THEM as a leader, but that doesnt mean every christian is like THEM

similarly, I wouldnt want a muslim EXTREMIST as a leader, but that doesnt mean every Muslim is of that same extremist mindset

there are peaceful and intelligent muslims, just as there are christians,, the way to know them isnt their religious label, but their actions,,,,

In the last decade, the employment of the Buffalo Soldiers by the United States Army in the Indian Wars has led a few historical revisionists to call for the "critical reappraisal" of the "Negro regiments." In this viewpoint, shared by a small minority, the Buffalo Soldiers (Black troops) were used as mere shock troops or accessories to the forcefully-expansionist goals of the U.S. government at the expense of the Native Americans and other minorities.

As to the Nisei, they would 'escape' the field hospitals, rear areas to get back to their units or would simply refuse to leave the front line.

Escaping the rear to get back to the fighting doesn't sound to me like they were being used as expendable fodder to save whites. Though it would seem that there are some who wish to deny the sacrifices and courage of segregated units. They fought harder because they had to prove themselves as good / better than white troops. I think they succeeded.
