Why do people get married?
|
|

Because there is still hope. If only the two parties could be open, honest, loyal and faithful there would be no divorce.

Why do people get married? Have you tried asking those who are married? |

Possibly out of tradition, never been married before, a means of showing committment to another individual.

Why do people get married? Have you tried asking those who are married? Of the times I did ask I didn't get an answer. |

If you're committed to someone you don't have to be married, right? You are right, one does not need to be married to have a family, or be committed to them. This is why I said traditional for those whom see relationships in a traditional sense. I know a few people who were together for decades and then got married. Some were successful, while other were not. It is up to the two individuals, especailly with the changes that occur in society today. |

may as well ask why people go to college, or wear dresses, or walk,,,,or have sex, its just a preference,
trades often offer better pay than those with degrees earn pants are easier to care for there is all types of public and private transportation to get us places quicker and despite public perception, there are many physically fulfilling activities besides sex,, with much less risk or consequence but what they all have in common is choice a lifestyle choice,,,,there are so many things that aren't necessary to thrive or survive or be happy but those things still manage to be the right thing for many people,,,, I will marry because I believe in it being a sacred bond with God and I want to set an example of serious commitment to marriage and God for my kids,,, |

I realize it's a tradition I was adding children to the deciding factor as they combine together usually. I don't know if it's always both people deciding, sometimes one person feels obligated to do so for fear of being alone or sometimes it's a green card situation. |

And I would ask differently: why they dont get married? Whatever we say about how we love our partner, how were commited to him/her, that marriage is just a piece of paper that changes nothing etc., we still need open doors so we could run away of this commitment. I can see in it nothing else then a fear, insecurity and lack of trust.
For me marriage means love for better or worse, true commitment of two people who trust each other and really want to work on their relationship without back doors. It requires guts to do that step. And thats something Ill always respect. ps There was an old czech film when a visitor politely asks an older lady hows her partner and she answers: "Once I came home and found a note that he leaves because for all these 25 years he couldnt get used to me." As much from me. |

If you're committed to someone you don't have to be married, right? Since not everyone who marries has children, I'd say no, it's not only a means to having a family. |
