We call germany, Switzerland and Austria the german speaking countries.
Basically it's true it's just the accent which makes a difference... A pretty heavy difference ;)
But if they want to they can all speak clear german it's just that they don't want to, mostly because they are proud of their country.
And Germans are not very popular.. And I just don't know why... Maybe it's still a historical thing cause of Hitler...but he was originally from Austria. So... ;)

Ich wnsche euch allen viel Spass beim deutsch lernen! :) aber ihr knnt euch trsten, denn viele deutsche incl mein ehemaliger Deutschlehrer wussten manche Dinge nicht.... :))

If you order one pizza: eine pizza
But if you order more than 2: zwei Pizzen.... Almost no German would say that except my former teacher hehe

Haha intact swiss German is hard to learn because of the accent ufff!!!i learnt "hoch deutsch" then once I stepped into the switzerland boarder. Believe me I thought for one second that I had learnt "no German at all" rofl
laugh

Yes, Luxemburg German, pffff... Once sat in a pub there, Diekirch, my husband at the time went to the loo, and he was the one who spoke fluent German, whether Luxemburg or German German... Mine was not much more than "Ein bisschen" lol.
Then the proprietor started talking to me in Luxemburg German.. I hadn't a clue what she was going on about, I panicked, praying for my husband to get back!

Almost half way through my course of German, I should be able to say at least part of this in German ... but I think it would take me more than an hour blushing
Can read what you are talking about, but translating it myself ...

lol...did you answer in Dutch ? Yeah...it's very different...add their dialect and it's really hard to understand.

I asked my way once there and I was like: hmm ? Can you repeat...slowly ?

Well guys that's true. Austria, germany and Switzerland. But in switzerland there just a section of people that speak in German. The rest speak either in french, Italian I guess. Anyway just to clarify something, it's quite wrong to say Germans ain't popular coz of their history. Live with them, eat with them and laugh with most Germans that's when you will know how nice Germans are. Well lived across Germany from west to east Germany. The German language for example in Hamburg I find it abit pure German "hoch deutsch" as opposed to places like bayern or Berlin where people got a bit of Dialekt. west Germany esp koeln natives are VERY outgoing and open -they like socializing a lot. Lived in Leipzig which is quite different ppl are less amicable that's is "zurckhaltend" I would first talk to them even at work that's when they would involve in serious conversations. I find this very interesting. After all many other experiences out of German economy and the rest I think they are quite popular. Hey if think Hitler may have been popular for negative reasons but no one is asking about popularity of Albert Einstein and many other scientists!!! slaphead tongue2

We get a lot of Germans here, they crowd our beaches every summer. Generally speaking they're not really popular. They have a serious attitude problem, many still behave as if they're a superior race.
They like to come here because they feel the Dutch and The Netherlands are very 'gemtlich', but they themselves are far from 'gemtlich'. They treat us as inferior beings. Sure there's exceptions to the rule, and maybe it depends on where they're from. But in general they're not particularly popular, based on their OWN behaviour, not the past.
It's mostly the elderly ppl that still feel resentment based on the past, and can you blame them? This entire area got flooded cos the Germans blew up the dikes so the allied forced couldn't land here. Meaning most elderly ppl here still remember being forced from their homes when they were only young kiddies. Houses trashed and salt water rendering their farmlands useless for years, meaning financial hardship. Stuff that stays with ppl.
I think you'd find the Canadians are far more popular cos it was them who freed this county back then.

But the younger generations don't have these recollections, yet they mostly don't like the Germans either, because of their arrogant behaviour. You can even tell they're arrogant by the way they drive :/

There are exceptions, some older Germans that have come here for decades, made an effort to learn our language, but Germans like that are few..

My daughter went to Berlin last year with her American fiance. They weren't treated very well at all.
English friends of mine went to Berlin, they had a brill time. So maybe they're anti-American in Berlin?

Sorry to say, and don't mean any offense, in general I think most ppl here are glad when they've all gone home again after summer ..

Me, I think when you meet them one on one they can be okay, nice even, but when there's loads of them, like on our island during summer, they automatically go into that typical German mentality mode .. Group dynamics kick in.
And sure when you're in Germany yourself, you'd perceive it differently, cos then you adept to the guest country.

So again, no offense, just another view and experiences

.i am young and still love Germans. Studied in Germany, work in Germany, got family in Germany and I have to admit I got the "work ethic" from them .so am greatful.i respect all races right now regardless.i try to live a positive life despite the past and all the negativity. This makes my conscience very clear. I try to get the best out of people.
