this is a ? as to what would be the best way to find out about new app's that come out ... such as Yik Yak ...some thought by bulling or making threats on this site anonymously or say venting ...where protected and where ok by doing so ... and could do as they please ... come to find ...not so fast... some are being charged with some of these threats and finding this site is not protecting them on the internet like they say ... something like post anything you like hurt anyone you want ... well now the site has been busted ... and kids are mainly into these kinds of sites ... now they also said similar new site will come out to take its place ... how do you stay up on this tech with new sites coming out ... besides hearing about it ...when it is to late for the younger generation ...who really seem to like these sites or do you just tell them ... no site is safe like yik yak... no matter what they say you can post ... any thoughts ...

I am looking for a good way to find these new apps ... as soon as they come out ...seems they are doing harm more then good ... by even saying post what you feel its anonymous... now I really thought we learn a lot about the internet when Snowden came forth with all his accusations...no one is safe ... that may be is what you tell the younger generation ...do not post anything you do not want to go to jail for becouse they are still trying to stop most users and find illegal actions on here... might be a surprise to some but the truth came out with Swowden ... just a reminder...
all I am asking is what is the best way to find these new apps ? that these kids are flocking to ... |

There are so many Apps it is hard to stay on top of them... Here is a site that list the top 15 that kids are flocking too.
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/blog/15-sites-and-apps-kids-are-heading-to-beyond-facebook But this only touches a few.... I would just google the apps to find out what consumers have found out about them. But in reality there is no where on the internet that you can go and say what ever you want to. And not suffer the consequences of their actions, if it is against the law. If someone brings charges on them what ever they say online or texting others, it can be used against them. Just like if you share nude pictures from your phone and text them to someone else, you leave it open for that person to post them... Also this site may help in finding new apps coming out.... https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+find+new+apps+coming+out+and+if+they+are+safe&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=sb#q=how+to+find+new+apps+coming+out+and+if+they+are+safe&safe=active&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=nws But the safest way to find out what your kids are looking at is to look at their phones or computers... Or have them ask before they can download any apps. |

thanks TxsGal3333...
but not very many parents... know what their kids are doing on line ... they hide things pretty good ... their so darn smart like that lol an when a site promotes these kinds of action... some kids go for it and do not even think about the repercussions... more then likely out of curiosity ... an believe they can get away with it ... the only reason i heard about the site was watching this news station I never watch before and they said the kid got arrested becouse of a bomb threat to his school ... wow ...people the internet is not safe... no matter what some of these sites may tell you ... don't get me wrong the internet can be good tool for learning but if u remember signing those papers from your child's school ...they want u to know they are not responsible for what they do on line if illegal and will be turned in ... thanks again Tx ...will try and look for them... |

.. definitely not tech savvy... I am however mechanically inclined.. just dumb as a brick when it comes to computers..lol

I summarily and categorically deny, being "tech savvy".

.. definitely not tech savvy... I am however mechanically inclined.. just dumb as a brick when it comes to computers..lol Yes ... that was obvious .. you said you have a floppy disk .. I'm never really up to date with apps etc anymore.. simply because I don't really care. I don't worry about my kids either, as they're old enough to make their own decisions, plus they know better what's out there than I do. When I gave my son my phone when I first got it, he knew where everhting was without RTFM. I was glad I could find the phone function Now if I want to know, and use, something I am quite good at it. But I simply don't really care enough to keep up. |

As one mentioned control your child's devices and data usage. You can also monitor what they are doing and educate them on proper use.
Would you hand your child a gun and trust that nothing bad will happen? Same with technology. |

I think the only things you can do have been mentioned here. Keeping an eye on sites that list new apps, check them out. Check your kids' phones and most importantly; educate them. Talk to them, guide them etc.

.. you're beginning to turn my floppy disk into a. .. into a USB... which you can then slide into your.... which may call it..lol That's great news .. cos a USB stick may look small, but when it comes to the crunch .. it's a lot larger than a floppy disk .. just when you think "is that it" .. you learn there's more .. kinda like the Tardis .. which I like .. I'm a "more" kind of girl .. Maybe I'm just greedy .. That's why I got myself an external hard-drive .. even more "more" .. |
