Topic: why do people believe in God? | |
---|---|
I bet this topic has been here multiple times, but i find it extremely interesting. Especially here on mingle, since it is often a clash of cultures and beliefs.
I grew up in the hard of europe, i cant say my familie does not believe in god, they just beloeve.more in hard work. Living in vienna, there are a lot of street priest, and i had arguments for a lot of hours. But still, i can't grasp the phemomen "God". It is like explaining colors to a colorblind person, i guess. I alwqys followed marx and feuerbach, who said that religion exists because humans are afraid of.death, therefore they created a szenario in which they would live on. Which i considered always correct. But here on mingle, are alot of young people, who are extremely religios and i cant imagen that they fear death yet. I bet it has a lot to do with education. Truth be told, even if was raised as a christian fanatic, i would ask questions, leading all to one answer, there is no higher power. We have to shape our world ourselves. Please help me understand, why people refuse to understand? |

the same arguments could be aimed at those who don't believe, let me demonstrate:
I grew up in the midwest of America. I cant say my family does not believe in God, they ALSO believe in hard work. Livingin America, there are alot of self proclaimed 'educated types' and I have debated with several. But still I cant grasp the phenomenon of the whole earth being some cosmic collection of accidents and coincidences. It's like explaining love to robot, I guess. I always followed reason and self experience, which tells me that refusal to believe in a higher power exists because people are narcisistic and need to believe they are the centers of their own universe. Which I consider usually correct. But here on mingle are alot of self proclaimed scientists who are extremely anti religion and I cant imagine that they are all just narcissists. I bet is has alot to do with their OWN reason and self experiences. Truth be told, even if I was raised a staunch Darwinist, I would ask questions, leading to one answer, there has to be a higher intelligence. WE can not be a cosmic accident and we dont have control of the universe or the ability to understand and grasp it all. Please help me understand, why people refuse to believe? |

uhm .... cause they can : )
that's about all i am going to say cause this is a hot topic i try to avoid |

lol, thats an answer too dawats,,,,
I find it is usually impossible to convince people of anything through debate, and people believe more through experience. Different experiences have developed different beliefs. |

I can tell you why i refuse to believe in a higher being.
First of all, he wouldnhave known that eve would eat the apple, why put it there in the first place? Second how could he/she create us with hatred and the ability to hurt one another? Maybe he/she is giving us a chance, free will.maybe!! Even a child could tell you that war is wrong, and that the experiment of god failed. Why doesn't he interfere? Why would he want us to believe in a thing we never can see, nor hear, nor touch, nor feel? I know i know...some of you will tell me that you can feel the love of god. We self proclaimed scientists however would say the brain tricks you in thinking it. Why would an all mighty being, create a world so wrong, so cuel for us to live in? Easy answer: he/she/it would not. |

I can tell you why I believe.
I was once a child and didn't understand why my parents would buy alcohol they didn't want me to drink. Then I grew up and realized that the parents responsibility to care for us didn't imprison them from being able to make choices for themselves that weren't meant for us at all because we weren't of the capability to handle it. I am grateful to understand the different capacity for children from their parents, and for Gods original children from Gods, and for rules that are meant to be followed for our own good when we are children even though as children we might not get it. I once imagined people should be like Robots and only do what they were programmed to do. I now am grateful for the free will, even if it comes with the terrible choices some people make. I am grateful for free will. I do believe, from experience, that God does choose when and why to interfere, just as my parents did when I was a child. I choose my battles and I expect a God to choose as well. There are many things I believe that I personally don't see, like oxygen and carbon dioxide or the air. I do see the effects of air, like I see effects of a higher power. I feel Gods presence, like I felt my parents were my parents, although many people feel this way and are wrong. I never demanded a dna test to PROVE I was righ about my biological beginning. I don't believe God created a world for us,, that is the egocentric pov that may be seperating beliefs. I believe God created the world for Himself. He is the center. He is to be (of our own will) loved and revered and we are to reflect his love in our existence. |

I believe in concrete evidence and there is no evidence of god.....there is evidence of faith but that's where it ends...
thats another good point
whats 'evidence' for one is not evidence for another, for we don't share each others personal experiences (humans) |
that is true! we call it introspection, not sure if i translated it correct. It means that your feelings or emotions can only be descriped.
for science this is obviously not very good. this is also known as the crisis of psychologie, which leads to behaviourism.. it still does not answer my question :( why do u believe in someone you will never find any evidence on? |
I have found evidence.
I think fear of knowing that there was no meaning other than to exist disturbs people......I feel that I'm just a complex animal that exists at a time and will die and go back to earth many can't accept its that simple....
I believe that some of all things are true for 'some' of everyone.
I personally had never had a fear of death or a fear of 'no meaning' I also feel as if I am a 'complex' creation of a higher intelligence who exists mortally for a time and will move on to an eternal immortal life when the time comes. many won't 'accept' its that simple,, |
care to share? what your evidence is?
even if it is something i can't understand, i would like to know. it must be amusing, to think that you could do everything you like with this life and then just go into the next. |
The complexity of our anatomy is evidence for me
the bible and how long it has survived and thrived is evidence for me the results of my prayers is evidence for me my 'inner God'/conscience is evidence for me the beauty of a baby is evidence for me a baby's laugh is evidence for me there is a list that is too long and ever growing and it isnt really 'amusing' to believe in eternal life, anymore than it is 'amusing' to believe that all the life around us came about accidentally,,,, |

lol, thats an answer too dawats,,,, I find it is usually impossible to convince people of anything through debate, and people believe more through experience. Different experiences have developed different beliefs. is one of the few topics i wont talk about i don't argue about if god is real , well most topics i wont talk about if god is in it my out look is very different then most and that's about as much as i will talk about it : ) i don't judge and to each there own : ) |

Sorry sometimes i use wring words. Maybe releaving is better than amusing.
When i make my little nephew smile, think about how wunderful nature is. Where u would possibly thank god. Hm all this coulndt get me to my answer, it kind of made it more frustrating. |
its all good
,,, I have become accustomed to religion and believers having their intelligence insulted here,, I may have taken the wording the wrong way. |
for me it is logical that there isn't a god. i believe that, it is the basement of my being.
it is far more easy for me to insult your intelligence than to accept, that maybe you feel the same way. that god is logic and the basement of your being. for us who never found evidence of god, only see the bad things religions does. therefore we start to hate it, and everybody believing in it. because we can't understand. hm seems like i got a little bit out of this. |
