I have been around some stutterers.
The mouth instinctively repeats the correct word, before you even think about the person being a stutterer. Can't help it :-) ~~~ In a similar scenario, I had heard about a new boss we were getting at work. So when a tall, good-looking man walked past me in the corridor I figured out who it was. He winked, I instinctively winked back. Then, every time he passed me he winked. One day the girls in the coffee room were talking about the new boss.."Be careful, he has an eye twitch.." !!!! I am telling you, even though I now knew it was not a wink but an eye twitch over which he had no control, every time I passed him I tried not to return the wink. Still did it every time :-( |

Would think you are as scared as I'm talking in front of others... And listen carefully to what you had to say... Message will still be there...

I don't stutter, but absolutely hate talking in front of the class.
Do what I do and let them know ahead of time and to bear with you through it...And then I just start grunting and mumbling, that's what I do in front of class. |

I would raise my hand and ask a question
I would try not to react too it so you wouldn't get more nervous.
Why do you ask? |
You ask for honesty, it would get on my nerves. I've known only one person with a stutter in RL. Then husband of a friend of mine.
I tried to not make him awkward, let him finish his sentences etc, but I really didn't like talking to him. I avoided him. |

Truth : I hate sitting through boring speeches / long lectures esp. those that likes to hear themselves talk. I would have to say speed the f-up cause I have better things to do. My other reaction is why am I in this class to begin with. |

:) It's NOT you but me! Just be yourself! I don't know if you have a speech / big nerve problems; but if I were you - just lit up a joint before class! We be both speaking in tongues. Best of luck! |

I always followed one of the most basic audience rules of public speaking: be really, really nice to the speaker, because your turn is coming!

At one time I was a Communications Science Disorders major. If we were in the same class, Id speak up and remind you to take a deep breath, breathe and take your time. If that did not help, Id offer my iPod for you to listen to while you gave your speech.

I would smile and nod at you and let you collect yourself and go on. The mark of a great orator is not they speak perfectly but that they have a well organized and thought through presentation. Many times the stutter actually make the listener pay closer attention and engage with the speaker in a feeling of humanism. I am sure you will do fine. If someone laughs, just look up, SMILE, and say... oh good I am glad I am not the only one nervous." Then dive right back into your speech.

it would depend on how well I knew you......if a stranger probably wouldn't do anything and just try to listen....if you were a friend and didn't normally have a problem, i'd give you crap for it...the relationship level matters
