Here is a story from ABC-7 in Fort Myers, FL.

A Punta Gorda man was arrested Saturday after ramming a shopping cart into another man.

According to a report, deputies responded to a disturbance call at the Walmart on Taylor Road around 6:30 p.m.

A Walmart manager told deputies they escorted 77-year-old William Golladay out of the store after yelling and hitting another customer with a shopping cart.

The 65-year-old victim was in a motorized shopping cart purchasing items in the express lane when he noticed Golladay counting his items as he placed them on the counter.

When the number of items exceeded 20, Golladay began yelling at the victim saying he couldn't use that register.

The man attempted to ignore Golladay, but he persisted and moved closer to the victim's face.

That's when the victim began yelling back.

Golladay then went back to his metal shopping cart and intentionally pushed the shopping cart into the victim - injuring his elbow.

Management saw the incident and escorted Golladay out of the store.

Golladay came back attempting to walk towards the victim with both fists raised. Management again escorted Golladay out of the store.

The store's surveillance video captured the entire incident.

Golladay was arrested and charged with felony battery.

What is it about elderly men in Florida that makes them go berserk?

Ageing diminishes frontal lobe functioning and men will become more emotional and irrational due to lack of impulse control..

I totally agree with that statement.

However, in relation to the post, that man's generation was raised on ethics and fairness. Many of that time period get upset over people that ignore the rights of others and just do as they please with no regard for fairness nor others.

However, violence is no way to settle the issue. And honestly, there is no way to settle it, Walmart don't care. Many large retailers don't care, so long as they get your money some way, some how.

But what would be appropriate is to just walk out and leave your cart in line, purchase elsewhere.

I am thinking the victim probably won't be going into another express checkout with more items than he is supposed to..

boredom, feelings of helplessness

nonetheless that was ridiculous. I have also bee annoyed at others with too many items in the express lane. I have also ACCIDENTALLY entered the express lane with too much stuff, and at other times, store employees ushered me into that lane. Bottom line is that it is store employees' call, not his, mine or yours.

what you are saying may explain why the elderly sometimes seem to react inappropriately. With people living longer I think it's important that younger people have that kind of information

I would doubt that very seriously, probably there now. He received the positive reinforcement, he got checked out and the other party went to jail.

again it is the store employee's call. I have often notice flexibility around those rules so it's probably best not to go not those situations with a rigid set of expectations...jmhoflowerforyou

I would disagree with both of these analogies. The problem is the perception of the elderly, especially those over 70, of an increasingly hostile society. They are feeling trapped in a very unjust world. They feel they need to stand up or go down and are very confused.

Myself, being one generation removed had my formative years in their generation but have watched my generation destroy things, especially the generations after us. We were the start of the destruction of the family unit in pursuit of the almighty dollar. I left home at 18 and never looked back until lately, way too late.

Walmart, employees that care, not in any that I have ever been in. What you really need to ask is why do they even have those signs there anyway?
