Topic: "Income Inequality" Total Nonsense! | |
---|---|
It is no longer possible for average people to advance as done previously as the basis for advancement is less mobile as the top six percent have accessed more than a reasonable proportion of money and make advancement less financially viable. Profits for a millionaire are far too great compared with opportunity of those in a lower class. Upward mobility is not happening just as the price of a new car is over 30K and the terms are now stretched to 84 months a ludicrous financial contract. The middle class in america is bloated and will shrink as other countries labor can rise and diminish our ours while expanding theirs as labor is less expensive elsewhere and that is where costs are reduced and profits are enhanced...Systems reach a point and then are no longer viable and with a global work force its inevitable that our middle class is suffering and other countries will prevail.... yep, thanks to Crony-Capitalism! |

maybe not a mistake, but if your happy making minimum wage and never try to do better, who's fault would it be? people can always try to better themselves, but when they don't, it's their fault I didn't say anything about anyone being happy making minimum wage, or never trying to better themselves. whatever As you can see, I was asking a specific question based on what the OP wrote. comprehension is important when talking with someone, maybe if you reread what i wrote a few times... |

I do believe it is important to realize that "minimum wages was never, nor should it ever be, intended to be a living, sustainable, wage. Basically it's intended for high school students who are looking to gain some work experience, and make a little play money. |

True, but when jobs have been tough to find, minimum wage jobs became more than experience and play money for high schoolers. |

I don't know about the situation in the States but I know in Canada; many were laid off during the recession including myself and we were making in the $24.00 hourly range. When the dust settled; these same jobs were now offering $14.00 an hour. Our cost of living is extremely high here so $14.00 before taxes is not livable here. Lets also remember the cost of living was still going up even during the recession. So, people are better off to go on unemployment or welfare as they would get more money. Myself; I had more money being unemployed than when I was working. So, the situation here is that employers are vastly underpaying their employees. Fact is cost of living is going up but our wages are not reflecting this. Again this is the case here in Canada but could this also be happening in the States?

Again this is the case here in Canada but could this also be happening in the States? this^ people live according to their earnings but then the economy changes so that their earnings decrease to a point where they cant maintain what they 'earned' before,,,,,although they are not working any less 'hard' than they were before,,, truly compensating people fairly and adequately (instead of continuing plutocratic classism that is growing the divide between the haves and have nots),,,, requires a delicate balance for which their is no simple solution, but we can and should do better than we are |

According to the OP, moe and some others, if you're stuck with a low paying job it's because you're not trying to better yourself. The rest of us realize that's not always the case. |

Agreed as there are very different reasons as to why a person is not paid fairly. I do have a friend who is the type that won't try to better himself as was even offered free schooling and room and board. He didn't feel like doing it but expects high pay anyways; where as myself and another friend of mine went to night school while working so we could get some courses that would help us to get better paying jobs. I had one then lost it and had to work for way less for a while but now I finally have a job that only pays a couple of dollars less than the job I was laid off from but its no stress, and offers a lot more time off so I can do a side line business to make up the extra money. |

my whole point is, if you don't try to better yourself, you'll never get better... not real hard...
if your happy with status quo, what can anyone else do for ya? |

Again, neither navrgirl or I were talking about those who aren't trying to better themselves. We both mentioned a situation where people other than high schoolers would take low paying/minimum wage jobs. |

To all the people whining about "income inequality". I've got some news for you. News to awaken you back to reality. It's not called "income inequality". It's called capitalism. Without capitalism The USA would not be a world power nor would we have any of the opportunities that we have today. No one's going to be "equal" under capitalism but we all have an equal chance to work hard. If you don't want to be a capitalist and prosper through hard work along with everyone else, then have fun being poor and whining like a bunch of sorry victims. Just make sure to do everyone a favor and stop blaming everyone else for the mistakes that you've made throughout your life, such as having kids without a financial plan, and then complaining when there's consequences. It's not your employer's fault that you're not making enough money to support your family. It's yours. You don't have to take that minimum wage job. You're free to look elsewhere for higher paying work. It all comes down to your choices in the end. Are you saying that everyone who has a low paying job has made mistakes? What about those who have been laid off through no fault of their own? Do you also think there should be no minimum wage? Never said that. Not everyone has made such mistakes. Those who have been laid off can look for work. Even if it's a job they didn't ever expect to be doing. Jobs are out there even if they aren't always in the fields that you are searching for them. Obviously there should be a minimum wage and there is. I do not agree however that it should be raised to some ridiculous amount like $15 an hour as the foolish unions suggest. I can see raising it to $8-$9 an hour though. If you want higher pay beyond the minimum wage you can work harder in your job to earn it or you can look for higher paying work elsewhere. |

Raising minimum wage is a set up for more failure, more poverty, less opportunity, less freedom...Minimum wage jobs were NEVER meant to sustain people throughout the course of their working years...It's for beginners with no experience, teens with no living expenses, it's a stop gap for people who have lost adequate paying jobs...It would be ridiculous to think there are not a lot of people working for minimum wage who should be making more, but the fix for that is on them and their companies, not government and certainly not taxpayers...Minimum wage is tied to production which means when cost increases inflation occurs...The fix is not raising minimum wage, the fix is pay based on production and the source of money should come from the employer...Get rid of slackers making high minimum wage and use the money to reward the achievers... |
