Topic: Dealbreaker "problem" | |
---|---|
I got this really weird thing, that is a deal-breaker for me: a guy that doesn't speak English properly
I never thought such a thing could or would be a deal-breaker, until I went on my first date after I had split up. I often have great difficulty explaining something in my own language, I'm so used to speaking English. And it turned out he didn't understand English, apart from "yes" and "no". I lost interest on the spot. English has had such a great part of my entire adult life, I don't know whether I can communicate well with someone who doesn't understand the language. May sound trivial, but to me it's quite a big deal. Didn't think about it for a long time, as I'm not dating at the mo. But I got a message just now from a guy who's interested in me. And he's Dutch. Seems like a nice bloke, very interesting profile, matching interests. And the first thing that crosses my mind is "F*** F*** F*** F***!!!!" I read, write, speak and think in English, what the he|| am I sposed to do with a Dutch bloke. I never met anyone who had a similar "problem", so I don't expect anyone to understand. To me it's a real problem, I feel like crying :( Maybe I should just pack up my shite and move to the UK and be done with it. |

Aren't you fluent in Dutch too Crystal? Does the guy speak any english? It seems you prefer english, but the language of love is universal!
I think if you two really hit it off, you could get past it. At least it wasn't "Hello dear, I will love to meet you" |

I have talked to people from Romania, Russia and the Philippines. I've had to quit talking to them because of the same problem. They just don't understand English.

Same thing happens here in Texas with the Latino/Spanish ladies. They do not understand English at all. Those that do speak broken English and it is some what confusing. Guess I really should have taken Spanish back in junior high.

Guess I really should have taken Spanish back in junior high. I am Latino/Spanish and speak English fluently, as well as Spanish, with perfect diction, so obviously you have not met all the Latino/Spanish women in Texas...yes I live in Texas also. So careful with the "generalizations" friend...it definitely does not apply to all of us "Latino/Spanish" ladies. |

Sure I am fluent in my own language, but I can't really have a 100% Dutch conversation anymore. There's words, phrases I just don't seem to know in my own language anymore. Just hit a total blank and I resort to English. I was quite shocked at my own reaction :S Haven't even exchanged a proper message or anything with this man, just the message that he's interested in me. It's just that my feelings/reaction hit me like a brick |

I used to think the irish accent, sounded the same as the scottish accent. I can tell the difference these days. Now that I'm older. lol.
I once dated a german guy, who had moved from Germany to England. He kept asking me if we could go on a date at some point. We tried it. I had a hard time understanding him in all conversation's. So I saw no point in continuing. How did he think he could turn me on, when I couldn't understand his broken english? Ugh. You seem to have a fascination for England :) |
