There's this movie called Repo man and they made a dubbed version where they substituted all of the swear words, so that characters would say things like "flip you" or "this is a load of rubbish". One of the insults that they used was "melon farmer" and I assumed that this was a racist thing but in the original it was mother f**ker and I guess that because they were dubbing it they needed to match up lip movements, so that it wasn't going to be like when you watch a foreign language film.

On here people get around the profanity filter by misspelling words but it's an American site and I can still say arse and shite because you Americans think that you're speaking proper English and it's cultural emperialism. It's political correctness gone mad. That's what it is.

melon farmer has no particular meaning here as an insult or as a racial remark. Well I guess if we wanna cuss we'll have to borrow from you limeys then, eh?

Well, I enjoy country blues and those old black guys worked on farms and I think that some of them grew melons and considered watermelon to be a delicacy and it appears to have been a staple of their diet. Over here we refer to the Irish as tatty houwkers. This is how racial slurs work. Black people are stereotyped as banana eaters and then compared to animals that eat bananas.

Now, Repo man is an American movie but it was made by a British director and I think that he was annoyed when they made him take out the offensive language and my theory is that he thought that it was funny to use a racial slur that people wouldn't take for a racial slur and he was saying that if the studio wanted to treat the audience like idiots and flip his film up like that he could say to them that melon farmer is not considered to be a racial slur because they gave him a list of words that he couldn't use and it wasn't on it.

If you talked to me on a site that didn't edit out my swear words. Then I wouldn't change the spelling of those words. I just want people to know what I'm actually saying instead of looking at the context and then guessing what I was saying.

If you want to laugh your arse off. If you can find it then watch the edited for TV version of Young Guns. They used some terrible substitutes for swear words. My favorite was instead of kiss my azz. They used kiss my hand. I loved this scene where Billy is having Doc dictate a letter for him while he's taking a bath and he's saying he's going to surrender. Then it goes to another scene for a bit and when it comes back he says "P.S. I change my mind. You kiss my hand. hahahaha"

I was discussing this on another forum and one of the Americans said to me that I shouldn't use ryming slang because people on an international site wouldn't understand me and that ryming slang was something originally that criminals used as a sort of code. Criminals still do it and a junky might talk about "conan Doyle", meaning tin foil and he might call blues "ones and twos". My argument was that they should be able to understand me from the context and my example was this old TV show called Minder that was set in the East End of London. Dave the barman used ryming slang and when Arthur asked him where Terry had been last night, Dave replied that he was with a Richard. Terry was this guy that got a lot of tail, so I guessed that Dave meant Richard the third, which rymes with bird.

Anyway, going back to racial slurs, I know someone that uses ryming slang and he talks about silvery spoons and tiddly winks.

Now, rules are different on different sites and on a more liberal site you couldn't say fag. I honestly don't know if that gets through the profanity filters here because that means cigarette in this country but I doubt it. If I was to try to get past the profanity filter or the mods I could try to use ryming slang but people would know from the context what I was really saying.

Down with cultural imperialism and political correctness and let's stick it to the man. Minglers, I say to you that if we want free speach we must talk in incomprehensible gibberish.

That sounds good to me. But what if we are talking in such an incomprehensible gibberish that we can't understand ourselves?

People really need to lighten up a bit..why be so serious all the time?
