Topic: Jobs. How did you decide?

I have had many different types of jobs.

Sometimes, the incentive was the money. Sometimes, for ability to travel.

A long time ago, I was a single parent with a toddler and an infant. Daycare wouldn't take kids under 6 months. So,I had plenty time to consider what type of job or schooling would allow me liberty to leave if kid got sick, etc.

One night,on TV,the movie Shampoo came on.

The fantasy of the action Warren saw was my incentive to do 2,000 hours of beauty school.

How did you decide to do jobs you've had in your lives.

BTW, it was Everett Beauty School,Gene Cross was the owner.

I went on 5 interviews for my first job.
Was offered all 5, took the highest paying
one in San Francisco.

It is not that I had any talents (maybe
interviewing) but that they were all
'entry level' which means they wanted
people who actually had no skills..yet :-)

It was a career=phone company.

well as far as the topic??? I decided by how I was treated by the employer I was contracting with. When they asked me to join the company that was the factor that made me sign on. Part of that being the benefits, pay and vacay time were better than most as well as how I was treated in daily interactions.

rofl rofl good one!

Thrills and $ bills, I most always have a choice and I'm up against
this all the time as most of my jobs are a few months time.
I could work for, or contract for 8 companies in one year.Sometime its
the area, or the people that are going to the job.

I guess we should be glad you weren't watching any slasher movies LOL I chose the restaurant lounge biz because my grandfather owned a saloon and as a child I idolized him.

Raised a Preacher's brat I doubt I could have ever been anything but a social worker. A full ride in a premier Art College came to late.

I did a lot of 'temp' work, due to the pay and freedom of schedule

I Have a cost of living minimum for my family and I apply/applied for those jobs that meet/met the minimum,,,,

My Grandfather flew combat in WWII.

My father flew combat in Vietnam.

Three guesses what I did in Desert Storm.

First the Marines, then Orange County SO. (Calif)

Those were the jobs, being a pilot was my career. It was probably mapped out for me before I was born. shades

I love threads like these, cause I get to look outside of my little world and see how others live.

I really don't think I would have been qualified to do anything outside of who I am. Being myself has always been my job.

Wow, that's an interesting progression. Have you looked into your family tree at all?

Was doing receiving and delivery at a high end furniture store.

Thinking to myself, self, how many years can you go hefting heavy loads?

Across the alley was a lock and key shop. Got to talking with the owner and he agreed to train me.

I stayed at the furniture store. Three days a week, after hours,I'd go in and practice.
It was my idea that I train 3 months free and after that,if I was catching on, he'd hire me.

6 months later, I was in the field, changing, installing locks, opening and repairing safes, opening locked cars.

No lock or safe exists that I can't open or service.

Yep. Between my side and the wife's, there are seven generations of military service, spanning 180 years.

My son-in-law is an underwater welder in the Navy.
