I went on a date recently and the guy brought me flowers. Although I found it cheesy I was secretly happy.

Do guys still give a girl flowers in this day and age?

Yep. When I was still dating my former I brought her a rose. Couldn't really afford lots of flowers but I found out what her favorites were and gave her one. It matched her well.

I guess it's nostalgic and reminiscent of first loves and crushes.

It can be, but with the right person it can be a priceless expression of deep commitment and affection. With my former, Marsha, she new that I was completely committed and that I lived up to that commitment, so the flower took on a more significant meaning. Little things like that aren't in and of themselves precious, but if the person they're from has impacted your life in a big way, the smallest trinket can mean all the world.

I have given girls flowers. They seem to appreciate it but it's not a big deal like luvmeforlife says. I sent a dozen roses to a girlfriend at work once. I left the card blank but they wrote "Message to come". Which would have been very romantic and made a very nice moment if I had actually known this and had been prepared. Anyways sending flowers with "Message to come" followed by an actually message will probably win you some points. frustrated

Mark, you are the man.Lucky Marsha(then).I got flowers from my first love. They meant the world because of the commitment .Years later, the only flowers I got were from my sons on my birthday and Valentines, and whenever they passed by a pretty one.One is now left us(R.I.P),but the other unfailingly continues.Flowers are a very good show of love, apology, care, concern, appreciation, etc. My country is one of the major exporters of a large variety of blooms, yet the majority of our local men consider flowers unimportant since they are not edible! We bash them about this in public forums, but to no avail. Any man after my heart must send me flowers.Even if a beautiful bouquet online. All the gold in the world wouldnt match a flower wrapped with love.

awwww, thanks Suntita! =)

Shame about your country though, although I can understand the mindset. I know what a pragmatist I turn into when food becomes scarce.

Just the other day, I had to go to the courthouse. There's a little gal in the records office I like to flirt with.

Just for the hell of it, I brought her a yellow rose.

Love seeing her blush.

No, I ain't trying to score.

It feels good, her feeling good.

I don't know if it is that I live in an area where flowers are plentiful and affordable year around or that I tend to date people who are shifting to longer term and more serious relationships but I am seeing more men take flowers to dates earlier in the process than existed for a while.

Since flowers are a lot healthier and less suggestive than alcohol I have always seen a modest bouguet as a classy way to go. I would recommend going with something a little less tired or over the top as roses but most florists and the computer can teach the language of flowers pretty fast.

In on line dating where a person has the opportunity to have a more cerebral connection first the idea that a nice bouquet might suggest the person is thinking of you as more than a casual get acquainted companion for the evening or a booty call seems predictable.

Really glad OP has met someone so sharp.

And baby I remember
all the things you taught me
I learned how to laugh
and I learned how to cry
well I learned how to love
even learned to lie
you think I could have learned...
how to say goodbye
'Cause you don't bring me flowerssssss
anymore
Neil Diamond

you probable don't know that duet he did with
Barbara Streisand.

Ya! I'll take that rose behind the bar...ya and
I'll take another Double Rye n coke.
Are those eatable panties in the tube?
"Yes" what flavor you got? "I'm off at 10:30 if
you want to maybe find out" ERM..I'll take 11
more roses..slaphead

'Cause you don't sing me love songs any more

It's a rare sight these days for sure! I see them selling fresh cut flowers at the farmer's market all the time and think what a sweet gesture it is to get them for someone.

Me, too. My mom gave me a rose for Valentine's Day when I was high school, but that's it.
