Ya Know? I think it is JUST as offensive if SHE makes me split the check.......as if I asked HER to. Let me get dinner.....PLEASE!
Let's get our roles strait (whatever "that" means). You Strong Women are SO in control. I "really" feel this! Just let us know what you want. We are completely receptive! |

You say we are SO in control (suggesting we shouldn't be). Next thing you say is "Let us know what you want". Meaning you want us to be in control. Could you make up your mind |

I'm confused; you're upset because she asked to split the check? Did you want her to pay for the entire thing, or did you want to pay for the entire thing?

Awww...screw all that confusion and go on a picnic. It's more fun anyway.

it seems all old school rules have gone out the window when escorting a lady to dinner. i guarantee i guarantee that the easiest way to avoid all this is as simple as the boy scout motto. be prepared. that way if you pay, you have enough to cover it. if you split the check, you have a few bucks left over to invite her for an after dinner ice cream. if she pays, you have enough left over to pick up a hooker on the way home after dropping her off

Does that mean that if she pays you will dump her? Is it really that offensive? When I dated, I used to go out with enough to cover the check just in case. I have even offered to pay or split the check just to make sure it's clear to him that I'm not dating him for dinner...especially if he seems to have a preference for fine dining or eating out frequently. Still...I've never actually paid for a date before...but have whipped out the cash for ice cream before he had time to realize I meant to treat. It didn't seem to bother him. |

I so get this ^.....It IS confusing!.....For women and for men.....Can only speak for myself and I am an older broad so you know what that means, I'm used to the man paying.....Those days are over and we have to learn new dating "rules"....I treat each date as having its own individual set of circumstances because I don't know how else to handle it...These are my personal guidelines and I am in no way recommending them to anyone else....If he asks and it's a first date and I know I never want to see him again, I insist we split the tab...If he asks and I fall like a stone, I offer to split but never argue when he declines my offer (I just smile sweetly and bat my eyes a little as I'm saying thank you)...If I ask, I pay...In every case, I think the one who doesn't pay the check should offer to leave a tip....Bottom line, if you don't establish the "who pays rules" when you make the date, all you can do is play it by ear..... |

Of course the man pays!
How the hell else are we supposed to make the woman feel obligated to have sex? It really is a good deal from a man's perspective....You gotta drop a couple hundred bucks to obligate a hooker for sex. A regular woman will feel obligated for about $20 and not having to wash dishes. By all means...let farmer pay!....the guy ain't made out of money. :) |

If I'm understanding correctly, the issue is that you wanted to pay for dinner and she insisted on splitting the check. I'm guessing you not only intended to pay but offered as well, and she wouldn't let you foot the whole bill, was stubborn about it and so you let her pay her half begrudgingly.
Welcome to the wonderful world of equality! I see it like this: 1. If he asks me out to dinner for a date, I expect him to pay. I would offer to split the bill or pick up the tip to be gracious, but I'd be shocked if he accepted either and it would probably be our last date. If he does pay, I always suggest I get the next dinner though, provided I was interested in there being another date. 2. If I ask him out to dinner, I pay for everything, period. If he wants to pay for a couple of drinks somewhere else after dinner, that's fine if the date's going well, and I'd tell him that. If he insisted on paying the bill or splitting it, I'd eventually let him but it'd probably be our last date. That would scream control issues for me. A date implies one party pays, whichever party asked the other, and that person should choose the restaurant so as to stay within their budget. Dutch means two friends sharing a meal and should be agreed upon before hand in my opinion. Not nice to spring "Oh by the way, we're splitting this check!" on an unsuspecting 'date', especially if you chose the restaurant and it's expensive! I'd be like "Crap dude, I'm doing dishes! Catch ya on the flip side!" |
