Lets just you had money and you were wealthy enough to donate a large amount of money to an organization. Who would it be? It's a hard choice for me, vets, I have a friend with cancer the list goes on. But I would give to women of domestic abuse because I've been there.

that's a good choice because usually there is a local organization so you know how the money will be used. I'd probably avoid the larger charities and give to a either a local food pantry (buy the food and donate). Or to the Nature Conservancy. There are environmental groups who improve the quality of life for us. even though we do not see the immediate need it is there - like a good OS running in the background continues to do so even when we add on an extra bit of security software. Or maybe divide the money between the two groups.

a lot of folks do not realize how large a problem hunger is right here in America because worldwide famine gets the press.

all kinds of people go hungry, children, families and the elderly on fixed incomes. Fortunately there is WIC, but there are also a lot of folks "off the grid" so to speak.

I love that you started this thread pkh! it's a great topic.

Hello, Great topic

I don't have a specific charity I would donate to, but I would donate to a treatment or a rehabilitation charity. People having gone through hard times or rock bottoms are much more likely to seek other alternatives and those are not always positive. With great encouragement, programs, classes and support groups many people could start turning their lives around and finding meaning to living.

If I had a substantial amount of money I could just hand over, I would have to create a manufactuing plant.
That way it could continue to give.

Most all those charities keep more than goes to help, IMO.

if I as truly wealthy, Id want to network to start my own organization

it would be one to teach inner city and urban youth about networking, multicultural presentation of themselves, and investment,,,complete with 'scholarships' in the form of start off investments in some of the fortune 500s for them to build up themselves,,,

Some nature/environmental organisation or Greenpeace.
And probs something for the poor in my country. Like Sweetestgirl says, it's always third world countries that get the press, but there's a lot of poor people here too. Children that suffer because of it.

But I think that, if I had that much money, I'd rather give a reasonable sum each year for different causes. So not once a large lump, but smaller amounts every year.

If I could I would try to do something to stop the horrible, cruel ritual killing of whales in Denmark, Faroe Islands. Insanity that this is still done in this day and age.

Not sure whether I can post links here, so Google it to see just how incredibly cruel this is, even young children are involved. Barbaric ...

If I could help and stop that with money, I would

They put on Mustang sales here yearly.
The paints go for 225.00.
The rest according to age. Yearlings are 100.00.
Two years up, 25.00.

Gubaments have been dumping large amounts, containers filled woth nuclear waste, into the Atlanta Shelf for decades.
