I've only been on this site for 2 weeks and 1 good friend was scammed and I think I am being right now but can't tell if he is genuine or not. Can someone who has been on here for a long time tell me how do you tell? I know if they ask you to go offline right away or ask for money but even if you stay on the site you still don't know if they are real. I hate men who prey on honest, caring women who have alot to offer. It's disgusting. Very leary of talking to anyone anymore! Thanks for letting me vent! explode explode explode

Most of the ones I've befriended came from the forums, not from me seeking them out on the site, per se.

Some are genuine articles, very cool, responsive, fun. REAL people, or at least good enough to qualify as such.

But yeah there are scammers to, it kinda goes with the territory.

Common things like asking you to jump off-site quickly, trying to get you on Yahoo or some other messenger service or personal email (Never, ever give this info out unless you are absolutely sure of who you are talking to). If they throw Facebook or Myspace out quickly, any way they can pretty much get in contact with you off-site is always a dead giveaway.

Pretty much as long as you stay here on-site you can talk to the mods or admins about sorting things out as needed...Once you leave, you're on your own.

Another thing to watch for is their pics, or pic as most scammers will only use one pic because they can't find more than one of the same person. Sometimes their "psychical appearances" section don't match the pic.

One "lady's" profile (on another site) said she was from Chicago
while her only profile pic showed her wearing an L.A. Dogers hat and shirt sitting in a crowd of people dressed the same way. Uh Huh?
Kind of a red flag there. Plus she said she was thirty-two and was winking at a sixty year old (me).

For safe measures always click on the bottom of the e-mail and click on Report this user.. Follow the instructions and leave it to Admin to check out the person your talking about..

Never post names ect on the forums... If you will Report them and they are not a scammer no harm done... It may take a day or two for them to get to the report so have patience's...If all of a sudden their account goes as deactivated then just assume Admin found them to be just that and opened up the trap door for them..

It is always better to be safe then sorry...

And always go with your gut....never give out personal information even your phone number till you are sure then get theirs first... Just the area code will tell you where the phone is from, then look to see what state they are in to make sure that even matches...But most of the time you can tell once you talk to them for a while.... most want to get you off the site ASAP due to most sites if they get reported and found out they will get rid of them... Yahoo will not if yo go to yahoo always keep the archive of your conversation.........

Don't let scammers put you off you enjoy your internet dating sites, it may take a little time but you soon learn to recognise the fakers. If you have exchanged a few emails with someone of interest request a Skype call so you can see them, if they decline for any reason then you can draw your own conclusions. The good thing is that most scammers are impatient and will be requesting money from you soon enough, and you never ever send money to anyone so they disappear, they are just time wasters.
Welcome to Mingle2 and good luck in your search.

Besides what you wtote..if he seems too good to be true, then posibly. Also pay attention to his grammar..when he contacts you, changes in his personality and how soon he confesses his everlasting love for you. Think real and dont get caught up in a fantasy.
