My son did it! He passed his candidacy exam today for his PhD in Electrical Engineering! I am so proud of him and I wanted to share the blessings with my Mingle friends!

I can't imagine how difficult an exam in electrical engineering must be - my mind reels to try to comprehend! This BTW is the same son who I have talked about on here before who was put in special ed, and got in trouble for staring out the window in 4th grade....lol

He is only 25 too which is remarkable.

Victory is yours dear son, and no one deserves it more! I love you with all my:heart: and always will. Aside from your academic achievements you are probably genuinely one of the the nicest & kindest persons in existence:heart:

drinker Cheers to You!

This young man has been working 6 and 7 days a week, 10-12+ hours a day in a university research program to keep the funding he needs for his degree. (Oh and thanks for the Ubuntu :) ) No one deserves this more than you do, son. I have always been proud of you, my small, wide-eyed, quiet observer of the universe has grown up & widened his view of the universe today. (He also has a Physics degree).

Please help me congratulate this fine young man!

Good luck for your bright future, my son.drinker

yes most of your comments on the site plateaued ages ago as tired worn out stuff we've all heard before. so I guess that would be your perspective, however, you speak only for yourself. If I could ban you I would. You really are not welcome on this thread - FYI

it also shows how little you know...about the requirements of his work. jealous some maybe?laugh

I learned recently that my son is inventing an electronic device and applying for a patent. Obviously I can't give any more detail, but it's very exciting!

Thank you! I dug this thread back up to ask for well wishes and prayers for my son again because Monday is his oral defense for his Electrical Engineering PhD. He has prepared for it for weeks, been published now 14 times in technical journals, and has overcome the "obligatory" last minute monkey wrench (fingers and toes crossed)....Monday will most likely be "The Day"

he goes before his committee to present - I hope the best for him because he has worked for and earned the best!

Good Luck Son!

First off, I will refrain from any self abuse jokes..simply because I'm a lot more mature that a was 2 weeks ago! But you have to admitt it, that was goodhappy come on admitt it.
Secondly this is hardly your accomplishment , good for him, well done.
Thats a lot of hard work! He's sure got quite the resume' already.
If we realy want to do something most of us can accomplish it.
I was a terrible student, always had to go to Leaning assistance, I had dyslexia and what they would
call now ADHD, but the biggest hold back is always with in.
I've done many extensive courses since school and have never failed any.
In one occupational first aid course that consisted of 160 hours, I even had higher
marks than an RN.
Thought a would share my story as you may know people that have been having trouble with
leaning disabilities.
This is my quote:
I never past a test in school & I never failed one afterwards.

And you! You have got to be some proud!bigsmile thats terific! as i read that you wanted to
call him, but you didn't want to distract him..aw that must of been hard.
You both definitely made sacrifices. I see this is 3 month's after ... so has he found work in
his field yet?

I'm going to post in the music sec, classic rock, think i'll post rock n rolls 10 top front men, mabee one for
metal aswell

Congratulations to him, and the next step in his journey. Your son and my husband are cut from a similar cloth; I watched my husband go through basically the same program (Ph.D. In Engineering Pysics - it's a division of Electrical Eng. where I live). It was a challenge to be on the outside looking in, and not interrupting. Lol.

I know, first hand, how much work your son has put in. I'll be sending him positive energy tomorrow!flowerforyou

Oh and jaded what school is it that has the engineering physics - his bachelors is in physics....so I know he brought a lot from physics into his program

Yay!!! That is awesome!

My husband went through that program at the University of Alberta, Canada. It was incredibly rigorous, and his friends are all weirdly smart!

my son's friends are hugely smart and super nice. his girl is a biomedical engineer but spends most of her time posting pictures of bacon on fbwhat rofl rofl

thanks I will mention that school to him....I think he may like to continue to pursue some work in physics at some time in the future. for now my guess is his mind is on graduating!!!
