If you were giving advice to a friend who had not been on a date in 20 years, what would you tell him/her to prepare them for their date?

I would give her an aspirin, the latest in birth control.
(You hold it between your knees all night.) |

turn the cell phone off. :) This could possibly be handy in reverse if the date proves annoying...go in the bathroom and text all your friends to call you all night. Not that I would ever do such a thing...never! |

If the glove don't fit, you must acquit! Oh wait....wrong subject.

If the glove don't fit, you must acquit! Oh wait....wrong subject. Oh, I don't know. Seems appropriate, but maybe not on a first date...but who knows. |

I would say keep it positive, no bad-mouthing about any of your ex's, smile a lot (even if you don't feel like it), don't fake a laugh if you really don't find him funny, sex talk on a first date could make you look easy so maybe don't discuss it just yet?, 'Please' and 'Thank you' are good things to say (forgive me as I'm old fashioned. lol). As for modern ways of dating, I wouldn't know. . I'm a bit old for all this modern whatever-it-is anyway. . .

If you were giving advice to a friend who had not been on a date in 20 years, what would you tell him/her to prepare them for their date? This is true for me too, I haven't been on a date in 20 years... and all the modern ways and thinking takes getting used too... so if I was trying to help my girlfriend prepare for her first date, I'd tell her which outfit that she's trying on looks best on her depending on where they're going... I'd remind her to check her purse to make sure she has money, her cell phone, tissues, meds, in case she takes anything on a certain schedule... we'd both giggle about how weird it is that neither of us has had to do this in 2 decades, and we hope he doesn't turn out to be a total jerk and waste of her time.. I'd encourage her to take her own car and meet him at their destination, so she can leave at will, if she doesn't like the vibes he's giving off.. then I'd give her a hug as I'm fixing to go back to my house, telling her to call me as soon as she get's home, no matter how late it is, to let me know she made it there safe.. and as I close the front door behind me, I let out a "good luck"... |

I haven't been on a date in over 30 years and don't plan to start dating anytime soon...I see commercials for dating sites on TV and I cringe...Years ago I had a singles' publication of my own with personal ads and articles etc. (Before the Internet took hold.)...I used to hear about dates "gone wrong" and all the disappointments...Basically I think everyone puts their "best foot forward" in the early stages. And it can take quite awhile to "get behind" all the masks and false fronts. (To see all "sides" to a person.)...I intend to remember this if I ever decide to start dating again.. All that "glitters" isn't necessarily "gold!"

If the glove don't fit, you must acquit! Oh wait....wrong subject. Oh, I don't know. Seems appropriate, but maybe not on a first date...but who knows. Oh THAT glove. Well....for safety reasons, you need a good fitting glove. However, since this person has not dated in 20 years, perhaps glove convo should wait until date #20 or something. I mean, if you wanna talk glove action and you haven't dated in so long, then find a hooker. They know how to handle people with this kind of age gap. Not that I know about that stuff. Just reporting what was on FOXNEWS. |

I would suggest they arrange to have a coffee with them somewhere nice during day time, so they can talk in a relaxed atmosphere and see how it goes. if all goes well take it from there, if it isn't to be, then the date can be quickly concluded by either side without any embarrassment. The guy should pay the bill, or be allowed to pay the bill, whatever the outcome of the date.

Relax and have a good time. Choose a place to go where you can actually chat. Don't text, call or answer phone calls during the date. Don't have a long list of rules you must follow.
