First Lady to Attend Ill. Teen's Funeral

Pendleton, who had performed in President Barack Obama's inauguration festivities, is the latest face on the ever-increasing homicide toll in the president's hometown.

First Lady Michelle Obama will attend the funeral service for slain Chicago teen Hadiya Pendleton, who was gunned down just days after performing at inauguration festivities in Washington, D.C.

The White House confirmed Thursday that the First Lady will attend the Saturday service in Chicago. Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett and Education Secretary Arne Duncan will also attend.

The 15-year old girl was shot and killed Jan. 29 just blocks from her school on the south side of Chicago. Pendleton, a majorette in the King College Prep School band, performed with her classmates at several inaugural events in D.C.

The first lady's decision to attend the funeral comes as the president is making a public push for Congress to act on his proposals to curb gun violence.

Yep. And the funeral will probably be held in a gun free zone.....so is the Secret Service checking theirs at the door?

If not it rather defeats the purpose doesn't it?

If the 1st lady (now that's a play on words!) isn't safe in a gun free zone then what does that say about the policy the rest of us are supposed to yield to?

Chicago is not a gun free zone. The police and the criminals all have plenty of guns. Every citizen who has a gun, is, by law a criminal.

You have a serious case of Obama Derangement Syndrome if you think that Michelle Obama is doing something wrong by attending that girl's funeral.

It is wrong because the bull chit meter indicates that it is just a P.R. event and that in reality she does not really care. Everything politicians and presidents wives do and say are carefully planned and directed.

If you believe otherwise, well ignorance is bliss. Yep, I sound cynical... I guess I am. But my bull chit meter is working.

So she can go to any funeral she wants, and I don't care a tinker's damn about it or whether she is being sincere or just following her script. I don't care, it doesn't matter.

Michelle Obama met privately with the family before the service and then accompanied the girl's mother to the open casket at the front of the church. Obama, who grew up on Chicago's South Side, put her arm around Cleopatra Pendleton and patted her back. The woman threw her head back and wailed as the lid of her daughter's flower-strewn casket was closed.
Some of Illinois' most recognizable politicians and clergy were in attendance, including Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush and the Rev. Jesse Jackson. But Pendleton's family says her Saturday funeral service was not about politics — it was about remembering a girl who loved to dance, who once appeared in an anti-gang video.

Shame on them. Using this girls death to promote their political agenda.

By attending the funeral Michelle is trying to bring attention to the issue of guns and gun violence in this country. There is nothing wrong with that. She is doing her job.

Her job is to be the wife of the President. She does not have a job with our government. We did not vote for her. We, the tax payers do not pay the first lady.

First off Michelle doesn't have a job, we didn't hire her we hired her husband for some reason. Secondly politicians do these things because its free media and they use it to make themselves look like give a piss and to push their agenda on us whether we want or not. Not impressed at all that she went to some strangers funeral during a time when our employee (her husband, the one we hired for some reason) is trying to dismantle the constitution of the United States of America, or as some lefties refer to it "That old outdated irrelevant piece of paper".

Of course you realize that the first lady as the wife of the president, although she has no legal powers, is as much a representative of our government as the president, and has been for
decades. But maybe that is too simple a concept for some folks to
understand.
