if your boyfriend doesn't love your cat?? My boyfriend is not mean to my cat but he is not a cat person. He has never done anything even borderline cruel to him but he does prefer that we close the bedroom door at night and make the cat sleep in one of his nine million cat beds or the sofa.

I guess the question is really, is it a deal breaker for you? You are the one in the situation. Are you ok with closing the door at night and having your cat sleep somewhere else?

Mmmm, I am thinking it is wiser to let pets
that someone is unaccustomed to, sleep
elsewhere than with them.

It just seems more appropriate to allow
someone time and space to get to know
those they surround themselves with.

From the pet world.

Miaow! Benji the kitty here from England. My human is of course Benji1010. Since he is not around at the moment I am left to look after things. Well, I have a very comfortable cat bed but, as befits my status, I always sleep on my human's duckdown pillow.

I would not have it any other way and my human appreciates my company.

Miaow! love

I have two cats. if I'm dating someone, they don't have to love the cats, but they have to tolerate them. They don't get to decide where the cats sleep, either.

Miaow, Tarzansgirl - and thank you for your kind comment. I shall inform my human upon his return and, in the meantime, I think I might steal another chicken breast from the 'fridge.

Common cat food for me? I think not!

Miaow!

Miaow, Singmesweet! What a lovely posting. Clearly, you love your cats deepy.

In my household, there is a notice on the kitchen wall. It reads thus: Rule 1 - Benji the Kitty is always right. Rule 2 - In case of dispute, Rule 1 applies. Well, I do have to keep my human under control.

Miaow!

Does it bother the cat do you think?

How appropriate is it to be dating someone and tell them how to deal with their pets, though?

My mom's most anti social cat likes me. Go figure...

That's the thing though, not inflicting what YOU alone want
upon others.
Empathizing with their cat-free existence up to that point.
Let them learn to love the pets without the pressure of forcing them to.

No one needs another body in the bed.
If you want the pet there instead of the person,
that's a choice.

Cats have no social redeeming value.

But they are tasty . . . to a Melmacian that is.

So, what is the problem? Is there a reason why your cat must sleep with you?

I would never walk into someone's house and tell them what to do with their pets. I'd expect the same from them at my place.

Me either, that is why I would be sensitive to the partner
in this area and not keep the cat in the connubial bed, as
Teadipper suggested.

By all means enjoy your cat..in bed.

I also have no door to separate the bedroom and living room. So, they'd have to accept the cat being around, or leave if it's really that big of a deal.

They would know the situation before coming over, of course. It has never been a problem in the past.

If someone has a thing against pets, it's probably best to go for someone who does not have pets if its going to be an issue for them.
