Topic: Is it a deal breaker............ | |

I also have no door to separate the bedroom and living room. So, they'd have to accept the cat being around, or leave if it's really that big of a deal. They would know the situation before coming over, of course. It has never been a problem in the past. Aye, that's a bit different when you have no way to keep the pet from the bed. Priorities :-) |

if your boyfriend doesn't love your cat?? My boyfriend is not mean to my cat but he is not a cat person. He has never done anything even borderline cruel to him but he does prefer that we close the bedroom door at night and make the cat sleep in one of his nine million cat beds or the sofa. I see nothing wrong with putting the cat in another room when the boyfriend is sleeping there. But if it bothers you, then that is a problem and maybe you should rethink things in the relationship. It all depends on what is more of a concern to you. I don't like my animals sleeping with me anyway, so it wouldn't be an issue (for me) to put them out of the room |

What do you mean by priorities? The cat was there first? Well, yes. I wouldn't give up a pet just cause a guy didn't like it. I'd also lose respect for anyone who did just give up a pet because of someone they're dating. |

I'd also lose respect for anyone who did just give up a pet because of someone they're dating. Well, the OP didn't say, anything about getting rid of the cat. She said her boyfriend asked to close the door, and that the cat be in another room, when he is there in the bedroom with her. When I was a kid, I had bad allergies to cats and as an adult, they are minor, unless it's in the room while sleeping, nd they are there as well. I have also posed this same request with a "new girlfriend" a few years back. If she would not have considered it, then it would be adios, or she would have always had to stay at my place, during our escapade. I asked politely, I treated the cats with respect and very much liked them. Curious and independent creatures they are. Not to mention, does the cat really need to always be in the middle of every situation. Even when your intimate... I don't think so. |

As you can see, I was making an additional comment. But like I also said, it has never been an issue. No one has ever had a problem with the cat at my place. I don't think it's a big deal at all. |

I would only have a problem with it if it caused the cat real stress to be locked out of the bedroom. The meowing and scratching at the door would not make for a good night sleep either.
This is a tough one as I would want both to be happy. |

Hummmm well my dog sleeps with me...The last guy I dated got a long with her. But.... now I did at least get her a big dog bed and put it beside the bed for her to sleep on. It took a few times to teach her not to jump on the bed and to sleep in her own bed.
Now I would not lock her out of the room, but one can make sleeping arrangements in order for it to work for all... As attachted as I'm to her there are times when she does not need to be in the bed with me..... |
