Publishers Clearing House, asking when I will be at home.

be genuine! I get a lot of emails calling me "babe" "honey" (you don't know me so either asking my name or just saying "HI" is favorable) initially in email flattery of that nature does NOT encourage me to respond favorably.. or those claiming to have read my profile when obviously that wasn't the case because nothing in their email remotely sounds like someone I'd be interested in!
personally I prefer someone to mention something of what they've read in my profile or on the forums.. showing at least there was enough interest to encourage that initial step and start on a common ground.. but that's JMO! |

I'd like to see that they've read my profile and actually put the effort into starting a conversation.

when a stranger mails you, what is the best thing you would like him/her to say? Every man here is a stranger to me! Just be himself, and I can figure out where he is coming from right away. |

I third your opinion and would add that if they say they have read my profile and not only sound like someone I would not be interested in but also make no reference to anything specific in my profile that makes me think he thinks I am an idiot as well as maybe a sap. |

I'm looking for a few good campaign managers.. are either of you ladies interested? just IMAGINE the damage we could do as a majority team!!! seriously though.. a lot of people (both men AND women) just don't come off sounding genuine in their opener.. granted, breaking the ice is not a easy task but, being funny, nice and asking 'easy' questions is a good place to start! |

Ask an open ended question. Something that'll get a conversation going.

Right, something that calls for an opinion. Or something funny is good too. every time I've said something funny OR asked an open ended question I haven't gotten a response.... I've realized that asking how big their shoe size is OR if they have a horrible nose picking habit isn't working.. I guess I should find some new material!! |

'I'm not lying. I am single' usually works for me

Publishers Clearing House, asking when I will be at home. Haha!! I did that once, and the next day three transport trucks arrived chuck full of books the publishers could not get rid of. I remember I saved like a maniac on heating bills, after I bought a wood burning stove. |
