When a "big woman" has more chins than an Asian telephone directory, she is reducing her chance at romance by rejecting men because those men are overweight.

Help me understand that mentality? If you are a "big" woman and are excluding men that are overweight how can you even say that without being in shape yourself?? I prefer thick woman myself but don't close my mind to all sizes.. what do you think?

Everyone has preferences. Some people assume that if a man or woman is not skinny, they should be going for someone who is also not skinny. That's not always the way it works.

If an overweight man isn't good enough for a woman, then why should an overweight woman be good enough for a man?

Because size matters, duh, everyone knows that!lol

Seriously, like was stated above, it's all personal preference. I've been out and seen big women with skinny men, tall women with short men,etc.. Come to think of it though, I don't see as many nicely built men with big women though? Hmmmm

Women don't have to be skinny for "nicely built" men to be into them.

Quite frankly, it is attitude, not size, that matters. An overweight person with a great attitude is going to be attractive despite the person's weight.

It isn't all about weight. There are many other factors that go into it when dating. Why should she choose someone who is overweight just because she's overweight?

You make it sound like that just because she's overweight, it means she must go for a man that's overweight.

She doesn't have to choose a man who is overweight, but why should she have a problem with a man being overweight? That is the question.

Sounds like the particular woman the OP was talking about had specific preferences, just like many others do. If she wasn't into overweight men, that's her choice. I don't see how that makes her a hypocrite, though.

Maybe for the same reason you use a character to protray yourself.

It comes down to preferences of the individual. Maybe one "big" woman is attracted to an overweight man. Another "big" woman might not be.

ALRIGHT, erm...WTF is "in shape"?

I really never understood this and really deep down don't care to. There have been so many dang threads about weight being an issue its just boring...

I can't answer this question properly because frankly the topic is sophomoric and idiotic. What IS the definition of "big?" Last I heard this one guy was complaining about a woman's thighs touching. Her arms were too flabby, he "couldn't feel any muscle." Her thighs didn't resemble popsicle sticks. Big is so skewed in this country. Most of the people, women between the ages of their first period and don't give a chit anymore have to maintain a certain look in order to be accepted. There is so many weak people out there.

What this boils down to is insecurity. A shrink may help in a long term but, I don't know, develop a personality. We sometimes like those.

I have to wonder why the weight issue comes up so much with men. Either men are complaining that women are too big, or in this case, that women aren't going for bigger men. Why worry so much about it? If you don't like someone because of their weight, why not move onto someone else? Or, if someone doesn't like you because of your weight, move on! We all have preferences. Not all of us will fit into everyone else's preferences.

Again, we all have different preferences. Just because a woman is overweight, it does not mean she must automatically date overweight men. It doesn't work that way. Some seem to think it should for some reason, but it doesn't. Though, I see overweight men with skinny women more often. So, it doesn't work that way for men, either.

The issue is the woman's attitude toward overweight men.
Is she implying that it's acceptable for her to be overweight but not acceptable for a man to be overweight?

I don't see it that way at all. Though, I don't know the woman the OP is talking about, so I can't tell you what she's thinking.

People are attracted to who they're attracted to. You cannot force a woman to be attracted to bigger men if she's simply not attracted to them.

That is true. I would add that if an overweight woman rejects a man because he is overweight, then she is in no position to complain if a man treats her the same way.
