I'd like to see this forum UPLIFT others. I always tell my kids that when they are home UPLIFT your brothers and sisters cus the world and some people in it have their way of trying to bring us down.flowerforyou

I think we should care more about how we alone are helping to make this world a better place. Just my two cents.

Okay I'm sure River had no ideal that this subject would be touchy with certain ones. Yes her intentions were good also.

But......... it all comes down to the way one words their opinion. As soon as the word ignorant is thrown in the whole aspect of the point is no longer there. Only thing one can see then is that word and the thought that she just called everyone ignorant. I know that was not her intentions but it is how most took it.

Leason learned always think about how your point will come across to others. If you come across as if you are putting them down or they are beneath you your words will fall on death ears. But if you word it in a manner that your not attacking them but wanting to help them you will always get a better response from others. Funny huhh how it is all in the way you word it!!flowerforyou

Ok, Dr. Phil, I quote your ignorance/mistake/lack of attention:

"No go look up punctilious and lay off the Rivergirl who made a comment and was taken to be mean spirited, which clearly was not her intent."

Shouldn't that be the word "Now"?

Smirk

like i said, everyone can make these kinds of mistakes, and spell check is not inafallible (no i don't know if that is spelled right and i could give a flying flip!) if the word is spelled right, but used in the wrong context, then spellcheck is useless......

no sweat off my tits, everyone write the way they want to! as long as i can understand it.....guess my A.S. and A.A. don't count if i cnt spl rght, yuck yuck yuck

I am really nitpicky about my own writing, and I have a tendency to hit the wrong key sometimes (whose idea was it to put the U and I and O all together?) -- I type "proce" practically every time I want to type "price" but usually I look it over before I post.

But not always.

It doesn't bother me when other people do it though, unless it gets to the point where their writing becomes totally incomprehensible. I don't think there's anyone like that on the site now (not that I can think of, anyway), although I have seen a few in the past.

In Riv's defense, I don't think she meant it as a personal attack at all, just more of a general observation. And I probably notice typos, etc., more than most, being a writer and all, but I try to focus more on the message than the technical propriety of the medium....

I cover my butt with mis spelling by claiming they are intentional so those that have a tendency to be shall we say more uptight (anal just sounds so freudian) can complain!

Getting jumped on says nothing about me or the topic I posted. It says a lot about the people who were rude to me, because they mistakengly thought my intention was to be rude. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

I don't mind it so much on forums like this, I'm guilty of typos and getting letters mixed up. And some mistakes I've seen so much I'm starting to do them myself, which is scary.

What I hate is professionals, like on TV or in print, where there are errors, grammatical or spelling. And signs, that's my pet peeve. There's actually an advertising sign up on my way to work that says advertize here. Yeah right, I'm gonna pick them. If they can't even spell what they sell...jeez. If you're gonna put something up for everyone to see, please try to get it right.

What bothers me is that they don't even correct spelling in school anymore. It might hurt some poor child's feelings if you correct them when they're trying to express themselves. Gimme a break, that's what the teachers are there for, or at least are supposed to be. Most of them probably don't even know how to spell anymore.

I totally agree that typos are "bad", especially if you are trying to meet online. I mean, on one hand there are lots of highly intelligent people who can't spell, but getting an email or IM's that have poor grammar and spelling kind of turn me off to the person. I can get over it, but that's how it goes when you're making the "first 'online' impression".

The internet age is really weird like that, isn't it? Go figure.

I said it makes you LOOK ignorant. I did not say anyone was in fact actually ignorant. The topic was not deleted because, like other people, I had an opinion on something and posted it on JSH. What rule did I break?

I think people, that this is a chat site, and we are busy connecting and having conversations, and you have to post fast sometimes to get your response anywhere close to the persons comment that you are responding to, so really, spelling isn't that important here, its all about the convo! And I think those that are making mistakes don't normally make those mistakes or they check over things before they send them...you know, when they are at work or school, where it matters! Am I right?
