ok then.
Geiger counters and survey meters are just like the speedometer in a car. the speedometer tells you how fast the car is going, like these instruments, which measure the intensity of a radiation field. The survey meters are for measuring large quanities of radiation, where the Geiger counters measure minute amounts., usually a maximum of 20 to 50 MRMS. there is also a scintillator, which is a more sensitive geiger counter. A Dosimeter tells us the total exposure of the location where its placed, like the odometer tells us the total miles the car has traveled. usually they are worn on a person, the newer badges are actually dosimetric devices also. They can range from 0-2 mrm to 0-600 rem, so you can see they are made for all different applications. The Civil Defense versions were usually 0- 200 rems, though i have one that reads to 50 rems. (i have a 1950s vintage dosimeter that is actually a bunch of liquids in vials, which change colors when exposed to various exposures. this one reads to 200 rems.) as an example, if we place a dosimeter in a contaminated area for 3 hours, and it reads 75 mrm, then we can deduce that there is a 25 mrm per hour intensity field, and that it was exposed to a total exposure of 75 mrm. Most dosimeters need to be "charged" before use using a special instrument that both charges and zeros the device. a survey meter or geiger counter reading in the same field would read 25 mrm on the scale. since we know tht this reading is in mrms per hour, we would deduce that in three hours there would be a 75 mrm total exposure. in the real world of course it gets a little harder to calculate total exposure by using a survey meter, as the intensity of ionizing radiation decreases rapidly, so any calculation based on a survey meter reading would tend to be higher than the actual field intensity. there are all kinds of penalty charts for whole body versus partial exposures, with multipliers for the sections of the body exposed, but for civil defense work, we are more concerned that there is a reading, and what is its decay rate, or is the wind blowing in more radioactives. We are basicly monitoring a rough calculation of the hazard and therefore what actions are nessessary. THERE ARE PROGRAMS FOR THE PUTER, THAT along with an instrument, allows one to monitor background radiation levels. these are expecially cool as you can set up the readings on a graph, and have an alarm sound if there is an event. these operate mostly as a survry meter does, with the exception that we can refer to the graph to see the history of any event. this is of course a much more accurate way of taking readings, unless the power is out, in which case we would still need battery operated devices. |

Actually it comes from The Voice of Peace a monthly magazine of the World Commission for Peace & Human Rights Council. Transcripts of speeches made at Pokhran, and Khetolai village during a tour of the nuclear test sites in India and Pakistan on June 17, 1998!
You know, I went to the US Army's NBC/NCO, officer training school in 1980. Graduated and served as an NBC NCO in the 4th and 3rd Infantry Div's at Ft Carson, Colo. and Aschaffenberg, Germ.!!! Dont know why I would bother to tell you that, just thought I would!!! |

My favourite witness accounts are in: "Unforgetable Fire", with amateur drawings more disturbing than photos.
(Damn, that's a funny pic, Fanta!) |

fanta, actually it comes from the book hiroshima written in the 50s. cant think of the author.

tomorrows class;
EMP, why does anyone care? who knows the acronym? |
|
|

It probably is Rambill!
Thats not where I got it though! He, they, probably have told their tale many time. Dont you think? http://greenfield.fortunecity.com/swallowtail/408/heroshima.htm Just for you EMP=electrical magnetic pulse....... My father help design, install in SAC HQ, Omaha, and train the AF personnel in the operation and maintainance of a communication system that will withstand a Nuclear explosion. He worked around artificial EMP emmitters for years! |
|
|
|
never heard of an emp emitter, but i have worked on buildings that were EMP resistant. thrers a metal cage around the structure that is analy grounded, and there are quick auto disconnects on all electrical wiring. also, reduntant equipment is in abundant supply.

Hiroshima is the story of four survivors of the explosion. i believe that it was first published in 1949, i have a first edition buried deep in the bowels of my library somewhere. its an excellent read. another good one is "the day the sun rose twice", the story of the trinity explosion.

well? anyone care? i got tons more...

I went to NBC school in the service....calculated kill zones for nukes and bio weapons...
you're not convincing me of anything Ram...sorry DU is real...and will be for generations.... |
|

"NBC school"? Damn! Them t.v. personalities know EVERYTHIN'!
|
|

woof woof...thats nuclear, biological, chemical ...or not born crazy....

rambill
i read your first post not a valid argument you can not use nasa findings to support moon landing to nonbeliever nasa is th org that sent them to the moon of course they would say that |

I know, I know - It's just that.. Well, you looked SO much like
a little Bush-headed dog, Davinci, that I couldn't resist.. |

q- when your bank account is depleted, what does that mean?
ans., the same thing as depleted uranium means. |

|
YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT RADIATION FROM ATOMIC BOMBS???
GO ON EBAY AND BUY A GEIGER COUNTER OR 3 FOR ABOUT $25.00 insert 6 D-Cell Betteries and go out side and take a Reading in the morning a noon and a night...(-; YOU MAY NOT LIKE WHAT YOU DESCOVER< BUT YOU WILL KNOW and I strongly advise you to keep your findings to your self, lest someone might call you a terrorest and toss you into proson or just kill you for your efforts... The World is over populated you know... |
|
|
|
The term is deliberately misleading, rambil. it's NOT depleted
anywhere near enough to be anything but deadly. There's now over 10,000 troops dead from gulf war 1 from gulf war syndrome and d.u.. |

lotsa hype there. i have more "geiger counters" than you have ever seen, and daily readings going back 25+ years. i havent seen anything scary in my readings...
except for the day a B1 Bomber flew over town and i had slightly elevated readings for about a week. actually it set my alarm off when it overflew. as for DU VERSUS THE DEATH RATE FOR GULF WAR TAKE ONE, its a big leap there to equate the sicknesses with DU, expecially since i already told yall the real deal about it. Ive tested the stuff with instruments. if your worried about radiation, throw out your coleman lantern, as if du is harmful, then coleman lanterns must be very toxic indeed. also your smoke detector must be a plot by Bush to poison everyone. its a LOT hotter than DU. HYPE ASIDE, unless youve worked with the stuff youself, and obviously you havent or you would know better than to spill that myth, give it up. |

unknown to the general public, there were over three hundred missile attacks that warranted gas attack procedures during gulf war round one. this would be my guess about gulf war syndrome. i worked with a Gulf war vet who had it. (lightning bob) he was clinically dead once and had and still has a lot of problems. he believes that it had to do with these Gas attacks, as do I.
