Topic: Help with domain name | |
---|---|
Hey computer geeks....
The domain name I want to use for my website is only available with a .ca or .org address. Is there any reason I shouldn't use one of these for a Tarot reading site? |
|
|
|
.ca is for Canadian websites and .org is for non-profit organizations.

Okay, so neither of those will work. Darn it.
Thanks. ![]() |

So, I guess I could use the .us address?

Here's an article that may help you choose a domain name.
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-choose-the-right-domain-name Think about how people will find your website. Will they be more likely to find you as a .com, .net, ,.whatever? Also, is the name easy to remember and type? Is it easy to mistype or confuse? |

So, I guess I could use the .us address? Try for a .com. They are the most valuable. |

Thank you.

YW, take your time doing the proper research and choosing the right domain name, it will be pay off in the long run.

Ya, none of the others have the exposure of .com.
I would fiddle the name a little.. |
|
|
|
Well, that's just it. I don't really want a lot of exposure. Just a website to direct people to who are interested in my services. But, I'll see what I can do with the name.

Why don't you want a lot of exposure?
Here's a fun tool that may help you come up with domain name ideas. http://www.nametumbler.com |

Why don't you want a lot of exposure? Because this isn't a big money making thing for me. People come to me for Tarot readings and they ask me about it. I like to be able to give them a bit of information on how I do readings and how they differ from the traditional fortune telling they are probably used to. And, the people I currently read for tell me it would be nice if I had a business card with a website they could direct friends to when they refer me for a reading or magick services. I could list the services I offer and things I make. Not to mention, there are TONS of these sites out there and I'm not interested in trying to compete. |

I see.
You can go for a free redirect through http://www.co.cc, if you just want something to direct people to. You will still need a web host, but you can get an easy to remember redirect, then point it to your website, once you get one. Also, when you're ready to create your website, check out http://www.000webhost.com for free web hosting. That'll give what you need to get started. |
|
|
|
Not necessarily about competition or $$,
you want them to be able to find you again. And, I think .com has more prestige and may be more trusted. |

You guys have very good points and I really appreciate the input. I'm totally new to this. I had an officelive.com free website once for a little while. Just playing with design ideas at the time. But, a real website is totally new to me.
You guys rock. ![]() ![]() |

The cool thing about 000webhost is they have a very helpful community. I was with them from when they first started all the way up to about a year or so when I started my own web hosting company.
