ok so I was flipping channels (late night) and saw the Real Housewives on.
Got me wondering. Now I indulge in "reality TV" on occasion (yes I admit it lol)...but why the fascination with drama? With all of the "reality TV" and media about peoples drama, why do you think people are so into other peoples business? Whether it's people you know or total strangers. Whether it's on TV (or the media) or in real life. I think life is a Jerry Springer show...I'm just here for my Jerry beads ![]() But seriously...why the fascination? |

I get enough drama in RL. I watch TV to get away from the drama, so I don't watch those kind of shows.

People are into other people's business because they don't have enough of their own.

Bravalady and Totage....good answers.
It does seem like an addiction to some. Like they HAVE to find out every juicy detail about the latest celebrity scandal or enemy or whatever. |

I'm not sure who is more crazy, the people who watch that stuff or the people that create it. I guess they are equally crazy because they have a codependent relationship with one another.

well like I said...I watch certain ones (like Survivor and Amazing Race but I love the challenges) but I know I will live without seeing them too
![]() I get it's entertainment to some, but some people just seem to drool over it and treat it like a drug. And that is in real life too. Some might hear a little bit of drama and want to be in the middle of it. Some get caught in it without meaning to. |

Because some people are sick in the head. lol. Most of my neighbours, are a bunch of gossips. I think a lot are, no matter where you live. I don't understand why some are okay with airing their drama in public, ESPECIALLY on tv. I've seen a few episodes of 'Real Housewives of New Jersey'. They just wouldn't let it slide. How draining :/

We need a DA....Drama Anonymous Drama will happen to everyone at some point, but those that seek it out and really get into it...need DA |

One of my younger sisters, is in a constant fight, with one of her friends. She tells me how she's always fed up of it. I try to advise her on how to diffuse that kind of thing, but oh, she won't have that. She thinks her arguing back is a better option. I say it's giving more bullets for their gun. I say if it's that bad that you're complaining, then surely you should put an end to it. Otherwise, stop the whining. lol :) |

My niece is a drama queen along with my brother and that whole part of the family. They cause the drama in their life then complain about it?

But seriously...why the fascination? I seriously don't know. In fact, the only approach to this question I have in searching for an answer is the evolutionary development of the psycho-social model. Animals must know their environemnt, their roaming grounds, to survive better. Humans too. Humans also have to worry more about their social environment. The world is full of dangers, so now as then, and the more we know of the social environment's dangers, the better equipped we feel to defend against them. So people watch violence, drama, controversy, crime, and the like with high interest, because it expands their knowledge of pitfalls and the dangers of the social landscape they live in. ==== Nobody will watch a man give his child an ice-cream cone, but the entire traffic will stop when they see two men in business attires get into a fist fight on Fifth an Broadway. That's so because there is no risk, socially, in giving YOUR child icecream; but learning the moves of the fighters, through watching them, how they deliver a punch and how they defend against it, will give you immense advantage in survival. |

People are into other people's business because they don't have enough of their own. In a way this is true, it conforms to my theory. You can't learn social fight moves or physical fight moves when you never fight, but knowing them does increase your chances for survival, and therefore you as a human biological social animal do seek out instances from which you can learn, even if you shall never need to use your newfound knowledge. |
