May be via IM, or face to face if u are not comfortable enough or close enough to the woman to propose in person than u should not be proposing if someone proposed to me IM I would most likely throw up

OK, i was just being silly before, i will be serious from now. Wait until she is in a deep sleep, then ask her by shouting at full volume through a megaphone held right up close to her ear. When she jumps up, smash her in the face with a custard pie. Get a friend to film it and post it on you tube.

May be via IM, or face to face If you are having trouble thinking of a good way to go about it, maybe it's not the right time. Spend more time with her, and listen more closely, pay her more attention, and when the time is right, you will know what to do. If necessary, take notes. Also, IM is never a good way to go about such an event. Punch yourself in the testicles for even considering it.

If you aren't comfortable enough around here to ask her, she may not be the right person or you just may not know her well enough to ask, Do not text for that. That is completely lame

Is there a favorite place she likes, or the two of you enjoy together? How 'bout where you met? All good places to plan a surprise proposal. Definitely would advise against the IM thing unless you're ready to hear an unfavorable reply.
