And, if so, is it women's fault?
I'm interested to hear your answers after listening to the news reports of the Italian cruise ship that went down. |

Oh what the myth of chivalry hath wrought..
The gallant knight riding in on the black steed just in the knick of time to save his fair princess.. What is forgotten is the 500 corpses he just rode over to find his lady in distress.. Mostly women and children nonetheless.. |

As long as he's laying down that coat in the puddle, or otherwise trying to make his woman happy, it doesn't matter how he got there, right? |

I suppose you could make the ends justifying the means an edifying journey into the realm of a macabre romance. |

I think chivalry is an idea, a concept.
Exchanging your life for someone else's is reality. Not many are faced with it. Signing the paperwork, to 'promise' to do this, as a job qualification, I am not sure is fully appreciated at the time. Integrity would then have to replace fear and instinct. How many have that? |

I think some guys use the idea of chivalry to impress women, not because they think it's supposed to be done, but they think it will attract women. I'd rather a guy just do what he feels right doing. Holding a door open isn't going to impress me. It's a polite thing for anyone to do, not just men.

I was thinking less about knights and more about the men who pushed women out of the way to save themselves as the ship went down. |

So you're blaming women for you not being the real you? You take no responsibility in acting the way you do? |

Romance is not the same as chivalry. |

What is forgotten is the 500 corpses he just rode over to find his lady in distress.. Mostly women and children nonetheless.. I was thinking less about knights and more about the men who pushed women out of the way to save themselves as the ship went down. I understand that. My point is that things such as chivalry in the most common interpretation are basically a myth. I read a comments section after an article on the accident in a British online paper. The majority of the comments in regards to the actions of some of the men were fairly callous. Women want to be equal they demand equality then they should receive no special attention or treatment in times of peril. This was a common theme amongst the posters.. Whether you agree or disagree with it, no one really knows how they are going to react in that type of situation.. Dead is dead.. |
