"taken" is an outdated term. it originated when a young man would "take" a bride. (then he would spend the rest of his life supporting her and their demon offspring) the woman in turn would "take" the man's heart (along with his testicles and half of everything he owns if he were to be foolish enough to try to leave) of course this doesn't happen anymore
