IT is a common complaint in our culture that people are too 'pc'
,,I take that to mean, usually, that people try 'too hard' to be kind and polite to others , at the expense of honest discussion and freedom of expression IT is also a common complaint in our culture that people are 'intolerant' ,,,I take that to mean, usually, that people arent trying HARD enough to be kind and polite to others , at the expense of hurting others feelings or challenging/belittling their lifestyles and beliefs, and sometimes their asthetics(Which can include race and gender) ,,,,,so which is worse,, being pc or being intolerant, and is it possible to be passionately opposed to both? where is the middle ground ? what are the solutions that fall in between 'polite and kind' and 'honest and forthcoming' |

I think you can dislike an idea without being nasty about the way you express your dislike.
Unfortunately not a lot of people think the same way. |

Good question. I have an acquaintance who speaks her mind. She talks to me like I am stupid. It takes time and sometimes I just have to remember not to talk to her or I wll get my feelings hurt, again. The only real trouble I have is when I try to communicate with her. Silence is golden.

I have a number of friends of different faiths, races, political affiliations, etc. I get along with them because we respect each other as human beings and don't try to push our personal agendas upon each other. They know where I stand on personal, religious and political beliefs; they also know I will give them my honest opinion if they ask and I expect the same of them. Also, there is a difference between a debate and an argument. I've had some great debates that have help to clarify what we each think. There are actually some people who are mature enough to discuss their differences without insulting each other or taking their differences personally. So yes, there is a middle ground. |

With me the middle ground is determining what evil is. Since I am religious and believe returning good for evil it paramount sometimes to pray for those who despicably use me in my opinion. It is like some test to make it through one trial only to be thwarted with another trial after that. Let your conversations be yay or nay only sometimes is a good loophole for me with honesty although some would see that as being guilty of omissions. But don't cast your pearls before swine also comes in to save me. I always have the alternative to be just as hateful to people as they are to me but I have found that doesn't help to practice what I preach. Altruism can definitely be a great hindrance to communication because it can be debatable. So I have learned sometimes to just roll with the punches and vent like crazy when the need arises.

In Nazi Germany beign intolerant against Jews was the politically correct outlook.
Being politically correct is not something that breeds intolerance, it only breeds resentment, the same way people dislike other forms of hypocrasy. At the end of the middle ages, during the age of reformation, being tolerant was not politically correct. You had to choose a side and fight for it. The US fight for general socialized medicare would be the correct political move, if you ask the politically correct, but the intolerant will charge that it's politically intolerable. |

You call her on every mother's day, though. Must. |
