The original Puppet Master?

Zai sheng ren (1981)

When a man is hired to enhance a fashion show, he decides to go to a puppeteer and use Chinese puppets as accents to the models and the clothes. His interest in the show becomes a personal one when he meets one of the models and romance blossoms. An old woman loans him her antique puppets on the condition that he not keep them in the house with him, or grave misfortunes will result. As one might expect, he ignores the warning and then starts to experience a few accidents and unusual occurrences - including being knocked out by what he thought was a puppet, and seeing flashes of a murder while he was unconscious.

Decade of the slasher boom, the arrival of home video gave indie film makers more of a chance of getting their films out there, for better or worse "shot-on-video" was here. Troma was founded, horror comedies became popular, and special effects artists tried to one up each other.

We also got specialty videos like Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout, Scream Greats, Vol. 1: Tom Savini, Master of Horror Effects, compilation videos like Terror In The Aisles, Filmgore(hosted by Elvira), Terror On Tape, The Best Of Sex And Violence...these compilation tapes helped introduce me to horror and exploitation films I wasn't aware of back in the 80's.

And I thought I already watched a lot of 80's horror films. Thanks for bursting that balloon.

Just finished watching a trilogy of one of my favorite dynamic duo:









Is becoming a woman analogous, in some deep psychological way, to becoming a werewolf? Ginger is 16, edgy, tough, and, with her younger sister, into staging and photographing scenes of death. They've made a pact about dying together. In early October, on the night she has her first period, which is also the night of a full moon, a werewolf bites Ginger. Within a few days, some serious changes happen to her body and her temperament. Her sister Brigitte, 15, tries to find a cure with the help of Sam, a local doper. As Brigitte races against the clock, Halloween and another full moon approach, Ginger gets scarier, and it isn't just local dogs that begin to die.







Brigitte's on the run from Bailey Downs, and she tries to prevent what happened to her sister, Ginger, from happening to her by shooting up with monkshood. Eventually she collapses and the police that find assume the monkshood is an illegal drug, and she is sent to rehab. She is deprived of the only thing that will stop her from turning into a beast and killing everyone and everything in her way. She meets a girl who is quiet and not well-liked, and much like herself, by the name of Ghost that helps her deal with her new problem and to escape the werewolf curse.







Set in 19th Century Canada, Brigette and her sister Ginger take refuge in a Traders' Fort which later becomes under siege by some savage werewolves. And an enigmatic Indian hunter decides to help the girls, but one of the girls has been bitten by a werewolf. Brigitte and Ginger may have no one to turn to but themselves.

It's a great trilogy. They so could have easily went the route of CGI but they didn't. I also like that they brought something fresh to the werewolf mythos.

Both Katherine Isabelle and Emily Perkins are underrated actresses.

Yep! I don't know where I first read it from, but when they were finding casts for the two girls, these two were actually in the line together and became friends. They practiced their lines with each other and became fast friends so they auditioned together and both got the part. :)
