I used to try to provoke the lurkers into posting -- it never worked. I figured the only way I was ever going to meet someone here is if I could get some lurkers to come out of their shells and start participating. But their shells are pretty much impenetrable.

Mutual Match!! Upgrade Now! laugh

Well we have tried to pry you out of your shell. We give up! noway
Maybe if we bring back the T-shirt contests on Fri nights.

I never realy thought about 'viewers' versa 'posters'.

If someone doesn't post.

I have no idea they were even there.

On some dating sites the particular forum section is, many times, dominated by a group of people who have become friends. Some of these groups make sarcastic jokes and comments eventhough the "newbie" is asking a serious question. When this happens the "newbie and many lurkers leave because they don't want to be the butt of the Incrowds fun. I don't stay around because sarcasm is a form of fun I don't appreciate: especially to someone new.

Most of us try to be nice to the newbies but when someone asks a question that only they, themselves, can answer, people can and do get sarcastic.
If they are posting "why don't I have someone??? I'm a nice person, I'm always being dumped or used...why???" It's hard for some to sit there and not say 'it's because you are whining and letting people walk on you!'
But stick around....we were all new at one time or another and have made some good friends in here.flowerforyou

We've all been newbies and all had to grow a sense of humour...perhaps that's why you're single....a thin skin, and it's always about you personally?

Do you think we old timers created this site?...No...we all arrived at various times, copped the brunt of jokes, had a wee whinge, got laughed at some more...told people to grow up...got laughed at even more, whined to the mods....got a standing ovation...

and then relaxed and enjoyed the wit, intelligence and genuine camaraderie that makes up this site.

Considering my amount of posts so far.... I must be a super lurker XD
I don't think it takes alot of confidence to post on a forum, it's more like are there topics that are interesting enough to read/reply to.

 Its all in the mind of that person..

Many here find, 'they' enjoy making posts,,and they take off doing that.

Many feel more adapt reading a question,,and then making replies to a post

SOME,,like both,,but I think MOST,,have their own preferences to just one.

We've only had about ten regular post MAKERS on here since I got here.

So those folks are few. Many who reply to the forums, also will make a post from time to time. My ten number,,was for MAINLY POSTING ONLY.
They didn't really reply to all the other posts,,as being involved with the ones they had on-going here..

At first I am a viewer, even if I wanted to post I am shy and worried that I might not get accepted.

Now I post reply whenever I feel and interested, just like what I am doing now and   it makes me happy so.., happy

If I may say I have a rather thibk skin from my career in technical support. I was responding to the subject at hand to suggest "leniency" for newbies. If most of you found a new friend would you immediately treat him/her the way new individuals are trated in forums? I tend to doubt it unless one likes to be lonely. You'd probably develop the friendship and when comfortable would being the sarcasm jokes. All I am suggesting is wait until the new person has been around for a little bit. Most people will fall right in.
