Sorry... I'm new here. Name's Jenn. I'm from Chicago... living in Niles just outside of the city... and it's disappointing to hear that the Chicago Boards are usually dead... guess we gotta liven it up a bit.

Besides... I need some friends.... so talk to me people... and I'll talk back...

I'll bust out jokes if I have to... don't make me do it!

Hope to hear from Ya!

Ok... here's the 1st joke, people... and this goes out to my fellow Cubbie Fans....

"What's the best part about the south side?"

(post your reply and I'll tell ya the punchline).

Hey, Jenn -- welcome to the site; if you're looking for a place where there are literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of great people to talk to, and to get to know, this is the one. I have dabbled with 57,819 of these sites, and this is BY FAR the best of the bunch.

That having been said, the one downside is that the local people (I'm in Joliet, so it's still sort of pseudo-Chicago) simply do not participate here. They are on the site (or at least have signed up at some point) because I see fairly good numbers of them running through the Match thing on my homepage.

But most of them never post, and they don't reply to e-mails. You may see about 5 or 6 of us (actual locals) posting in the Chicago Forums, just to keep the tumbleweeds from taking over; we sometimes get a little "outside support" from friends like Whisper (Canada) and Green Eyed Hippie Chick (Texas) who pop in to keep our spirits up!

I have been trying for months to come up with a way to liven this thing up, even went so far as to make a post about a specific town (Orland Park) that I know very well, but nothing has worked.

And I've reached the conclusion that there just isn't much you can do when the people who SHOULD be posting here are just very uncommunicative and unfriendly. I do wonder why they even bothered to sign up on a website they have no intention of being involved with, but what are you gonna do?

So -- that's really the ONLY bad thing about JSH. You will find lots of great people here, poems to read, jokes, all kinds of topics, people who give great advice, just the nicest and most caring and helpful people I have ever seem accumulated together in any one place.

Just not many from around here....!!

Thanks, Lex....

It's a shame that one of the LARGEST cities has such poor participants... damn... now I gotta move... lol

joke # 2:

How many emo kids does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

I didn't say the jokes were great...

anyway... it takes 26 emo kids to screw in a light bulb... 1 to actually do it and 25 to write about how hard it was.

What's an emo kid?

an emo kid is one of those "deep" kids who complains about the pain of the world. Usually, they dress in all black, but not goth, and wear their hair in front of their eyes. They're also the ones prone to write about suicide and death and depressing ****.

Nus -- My last actual serious gf was one of those. At the point I first met her, she was seriously on the verge of suicide. It took me 2 years to pull her out of that, but it was totally worth it. Last year, she finished college and is now a successful graphics designer with a much less fatalistic view of life....

Good for you Lex! Seems like young people go into such a fatalistic nosedive these days and give up or give in before they realize the world of experience that awaits them!

Suicide is so selfish...

I think I was emo in high school before emo was emo... lol.

I've since realized that there is a bright side to life....

She had been through a lot and had absolutely no support from family or anyone else. And I actually met her on a website, completely by accident (I was trying to locate a friend who lived near her), we started talking and I was just compelled to help her. She was brilliant, artistic, creative, loving and generous, and we could talk for hours and never run out of things to say.

She just needed someone to say "Hey, I care about you," and to hold her when the memories got to be too painful. Not all that much to ask, when you think about it....
